Official LBJ thread: Leading from behind?

He's legit now in my eyes. Not just because he won the hardware, but because he actually showed up in the Finals on the biggest stage except for a brief relapse for his cramp-a-thon.

Is he top 10 all time yet? No way. Probably will be before he's done though.

I am willing to say out loud for the first time though that he is right now the best player in the world. He has not been that until now. Kobe had an amazing run as best player for several years. Last year Dirk was for one season. Now LeBron is. I'm interested to see if he is motivated to sustain it like Kobe did, or whether he will relax like Dirk did.
I'm lost in the fog of denial!

^^I'm with you TIME.... He's playing at a very high level and doing it consistently..... What I saw that was different was his mental approach to the game.... he let it come to him and he facilitated when they took away his penetration and he took it to the hoop when they didn't.... smart basketball. He's always had the physical talent.

Even more impressive for me was how Wade has transformed his game to mesh with LeBron.... didn't think he had it in him to concentrate on the "dirty work" like he did....

No one wants to win like Kobe IMO.... My guess is that they will be back from the East given that only Indiana and Atlanta will remain somewhat in tact after this off season and that isn't a given either. If OKC doesn't get a front court threat and ditch Westbrook they could be back but I'd expect pretty much the same results again.....

Yep it seems LeBron finally grasped the mental aspect of the game. And you're right there really isn't much competition for them right now, especially in the east. If LeBron continues to maintain this level of play and focus I really don't see a team stopping him from getting to the Finals pretty much every year for the foreseeable future.

I don't care either.

Yet as I watched him Monday, I could not help think how little it mattered and how right he is. He is not fading into the shadows. He does not know how to go out that way.[.]

With another year of experience I could easily see Oklahoma City winning the title next year. Alot depends on what happens in the offseason with Dallas and the Lakers.

IMO Miami's ability to keep winning depends on what Pat Riley puts around their big 3. They're an old team overall, they have LeBron, Bosh, Chalmers, Cole, that's about it for their youth that they actually play. Wade is an old 30, body is beat up, Battier is old, Haslem is older, even though Miller didn't do a lot he's old, maybe done. And teams like OKC and Chicago aren't just going to go away, they will get better with age.

Chicago isn't a threat at all. Even with a healthy Rose they couldn't beat Miami last year. He could miss all of next year and probably won't be fully healthy until 2013/2014. Miami is gonna have a cakewalk to the Finals next year.

Well we just disagree on that, I think Chicago when healthy is a threat. They have a very good overall team, va pretty deep team and they have a star in Rose leading them. I'm not saying Chicago is going to beat them, I'm just saying I don't think it's a given that Miami wins the next few titles or anything, there are elements to consider, like replacing their aging supporting cast like I mentioned.

Lebron obviously deserved the Finals MVP. But I just cannot believe how timely and perfectly Battier, Miller and Chalmers were when they needed to be. Especially as all three of them had MAJOR shooting issues for most of the playoffs otherwise, but they stepped up in such a major way, especially with how close most of those games were. Any one of those guys doesn't get white hot in their respective games and the Thunder basically sweeps Miami. But, it's not like that was the 'it' factor, ultimately, that's just Basketball and team play and why role players are vital to Championships

Lebron has had a 'tough' road in terms of scrutiny, even if so much of it was kind of self-imposed. I'm not exactly about to start rooting for the guy, but at the end of the day, he _did_ do what he needed to do. he _did_ elevate his game, mentally, emotionally and he absolutely earned this in every way shape and form. It's hard for me to not see it as an asterisk championship, but whatever, with the way the East _and_ West are both shaping out presently, seeing the Thunder and Heat in the Finals might be a regular occurrence for at least a few seasons, and now that he's won this, you figure he'll _probably_ only dial in that much more on his mental game(especially if they win another Gold in 2012).

Table is set, basically, if he's going to 'build his legacy' it's now or never. In the long run, people aren't really going to doubt him anymore, but the top of the pantheon is still a long way away.

The King doesn't care about individual accomplishments or stats, he just wants to win. No matter if he scores 100 points or 1 point he wants the W. When it is all said and done Lebron will have more rings than Kobe.

Well, at least he knows how to make an entrance. Welcome to CL. We all look forward to debating with you. LeBron has 5 more to go in case you're wondering....I just checked my sources...and yes, Kobe Bryant is STILL playing for at least the next 2 years. I hope to see Kobe vs LeBron in the finals at least once before Kobe retires....

no he wont. lebron is a quitter. just look at how he passes up the chance to take the GW shot in games sometimes and instead gives the ball to someone else. he'll never be considered one of the all time greats, not to mention he won his ring in the cheapest way possible

It doesn't matter. Short season.
Asterisk rings don't really count. Just ask me, circa 1999.

That has made it all over but looking at the comments I came across this:

Andrew Bayliss · North High School
Pau's is the best because it's so incredibly true. You know Kobe thinks he's the best player on the team, even though he shouldn't even start.
