I hate him, but how can you not give credit for what LeBron did in the clutch there? He did everything. Scored, grabbed boards, played D, and assisted the game winner. He's easily the best player in the game and it's not even close. I don't see how anyone can beat the Heat this year.

I don't get why Pop was fined. This is not the first time he has done something like this. Has he been fined in the past for doing this? If not, then why? I don't remember him ever being fined for doing this during the middle/late of the season.

If Pop can get fined for this then why not fine the coaches who rest their starters towards the end of the season?

Let's not get too excited. It really wasn't all that impressive at all. There was no reason he shouldn't have completely taken the game over and put 40 points against the kind of crap the Spurs rolled out tonight. Lebron was a Ray clutch 3 away from a very embarrassing situation.

I actually hope the league fines the Spurs for pulling their starters....

It's a product I pay a lot of money for... I could care less if the reigning champions can beat the Spurs bench in crunch time.

Both teams are banged up and it was the 5th game in 7 nights. I'll take it as a fan of the team. The end goal is winning the championship and the Spurs big 3 is older.

Would have preferred this game to be the first of the Florida games.

Get over it. Stern has absolutely no right to tell a team when and when they can't rest their players. Maybe Stern shouldn't have had the Heat coming into the game with four days rest, while the spurs played 4 games in 5.

Teams, and coaches are allowed to manage their players how they see fit. It's one game for goodness sake!

^^ A Marquis game on their National T.V. Contract that has been scheduled for what..... 5 months involving two of the top 6 teams in the entire league. Pop is trolling if he thinks anyone believes that this is anything but a poke at the NBA and Stern. He's famous for this stuff....

I believe Stern DOES have the right to tell them what to do..... The Owner's gave him that power.

Knowing a little about how entertainment contracts work I would bet that TNT was phoning the NBA the second they found out that the product they were paying to air was altered "arbitrarily". Don't be fooled here.... the pointy head attorneys that negotiate these deals I'm sure have clauses in the agreement to dissuade this type of shenanigans and I'd bet my last dollar that they involve larges sums of dollars changing hands in the direction that's not in the NBA's favor. This is a multi-hundred billion dollar industry...... besides being a fun to follow game...

If D'Antoni had done this with Kobe, Pau, Dwight, and a Nash without a fractured leg, and we had as dense of a schedule as theirs, I'd be okay with it. Let them rest, especially against a team from the other conference.

The league is a joke ... coaches should play whoever they want to whenever they want to ( not sure that's proper English ) ... of course this is all about the dolla dolla bill

The league is and always has been a business.... not sure what you are getting at here. If you want purity the YBA is about the only unsoiled version of organized basketball left....

If this was Spurs vs. Bobcats on some local broadcast, I don't think anyone would have blinked an eye. Since it was a national broadcast, the whole nation was looking to be entertained and that's where the problem is at. Plain and simple, it's bad for business, to give a less than desired product on national TV to an audience that was expecting a matchup between two contenders at full strength.

Now strictly basketball speaking, Pop can do whatever he wants, why everyone has to sit at the same time is beyond me, but he's the coach, it's his team, his players, his decision.

B.S. The NBA is in the Entertainment business.... The only reason The Spurs organization exists & that Pop has a job is because the League has sponsorships & distribution/advertising deals that enable the game to be globally marketed.... Holding out marquee players during nationally televised games ON A REGULAR BASIS... Is grounds for a fine....

And, I would be okay with the league fining the Lakers in that situation too... Let them rest, but you have to pay a price for it.

And, yes... I Could care less... It would be hard, but I Could.

If Stern wants to warn or fine anyone it should be the Miami Heat for their pathetic showing against a bunch of D-Leaguers and Euro's.

my post wasn't very clear ... I understand the business side of the league ... I'm just saying fining ( I guess) the Spurs shouldn't happen ...

The season should be shorter and the schedule better organized .. no more back to back , 4 games in 5 nights

This was the 4th game in 5 nights for SAS , the 4th game in THIRTEEN nights ( wtf) for Miami

I'm hard pressed to see what reason Stern could give for a fine that wouldn't also count for teams resting stars at the end of the season. And, as mentioned earlier, Pop is certainly known for resting starters occasionally as the schedule seems fit during back to backs, etc. If Stern wants all the stars playing then he shouldn't have scheduled them such a crazy schedule. If Pop pulled this move intentionally to thumb his nose at Stern, then cheers for him.

I do think its amusing that he actually flew them home early rather than what they usually do, which is watch in street clothes from the bench. I think he knew he'd be compelled to play them if they were there.
