Wow, what's the point of having rules if the refs aren't gonna stick to them?

Where do you guys rank Dirk? As old as he is, he's still extremely deadly from anywhere on court.

You know as much as I hate the Heat I'm glad to see Greg Oden return to the court after all the injuries and time he's missed.

I can't believe he's on the court and Rose and Kobe are both out.

Weird game in Washington today. The Wizards clobbered the Heat save for two semi-surges that cut an otherwise completely lopsided game down for brief moments. More a result of the Heat being bored I think than anything else, but it was still pretty weird to watch. Nene also had a monster chasedown block against Lebron as well as a straight up facial dunk on him later in the game, which is pretty unusual too.

One thing I never understand about when teams have huge leads. I know you don't want to play for the lead and you want to instead keep the offense up and try and continue to grow it but the main reason the Heat got back in the game at all (and this is something you see a lot with big early leads) is that the Wizards were playing too fast paced and started to make a bunch of errors. Seems to me that if you have a 34 point lead, sure, go ahead and run your sets, but start them 3-4 seconds later than you normally would, just try and use the clock as much as you can. Instead they'd be hoisting shots with 15 seconds left on the shot clock allowing the Heat to score in rapid succession (10-15 points in 2 minutes type pace) I mean there does come a point when a lead is _so_ big that you could practically have a shot clock violation on every possession and the opposing team still wouldn't be able to cut into it.

I think teams sometimes just want to have fun, so when they get a big lead, they start playing loose and go street ball style or they take big risks to make flashy plays. And in that moment, you don't really think about running the clock; you just kind of fly by the seat of your pants. They hardly get the chance to put on a "show" during a game, so might as well do it when you're up 30.

Those Blazers.........so so dangerous. They have all the tools to beat any team. Can cause huge matchup problems for pretty much any team.

The Blazers do have one weakness. They rely on the jumper a bit too much.

Yup... and even their "big" shoots the majority of his shots outside the paint. The playoffs will be a much different story for them IMO.

WTS... they are a fun team to watch and seem to play together..... which is a lost art.

Portland isn't good enough on D to succeed in the playoffs ... they do rely on the J too much but who knows they may get hot ala 2011 Mavs ... the difference is Dallas was solid enough on D to win it all

the 2011 mavs were this way, too (stotts was an assistant there at the time). i think sometimes people make the mistake of assuming a statistical anomaly is an accident in all cases. dirk nowitzki and lamarcus aldridge hit lots of midrange shots. i don't care what the league average is, you better get in their shirt 18 feet from the basket, and you may have to send 2. this basically wrecks most conventional nba defensive principles, as they assume that's a bad shot. it's only a bad shot when someone not named dirk nowitzki is taking it.

i'm not saying portland is going to win the title, but i think just saying "they shoot too many jumpers" isn't a good argument against them. their generally poor defense is a bigger problem.

So hearing on tonight's TNT broadcast about Howard frustrated with not having enough touches. Kerr says it is because Houston do not have competent post feeders. The reason apparently is that they do not know how because they played with Asik all of last season so that was not something they did with regularity. Sounds plausible enough but seriously? Haven't these guys have played basketball all their life that an entry pass into the post is that complicated?

^If you think Houston is terrible at it, you should have watched the Cavs when they were playing with Bynum. All teams had to do was front Bynum and the guards had no idea what to do or how to get it to him.

Scott Brooks is one of the most underrated coaches in the league.

Houston doesn't have a pg on its roster, really. I don't even think Beverly really knows how to play the position. I don't care, though, I want them to lose. hard.

I doesn't take a PG to make a post entry pass. It doesn't help that Howard doesn't know how to post up and get position. We've already witnessed it before.

Howard is just incredibly stupid and easily manipulable. He's still dead set on posting up because of how much the media rips him about that...when he's actually most effective off pnr and with the occasional post up.

He doesn't realize that he's not the same player. He doesn't realize that Orlando was so good with him because they ran a ton of pnr. I think they lead the league in pnr. He doesn't even seem to understand that the Rockets are almost dead last in post up efficiency (points per possession) because they just suck at it, especially if they keep trying to force it instead of letting the offense just have some semblance of a flow. The Rockets are just so ugly and boring to watch.
