Paul George will become eligible for a contract extension this offseason and would become a restricted free agent in the 2014 offseason if a deal with the Indiana Pacers is reached.

“I would hope," George said when asked about getting a maximum contract. “I would hope. Max guys get the job done at this time (the playoffs).’’

George said he is clearly focusing on the playoffs at this point.

“I haven’t really put my mind to that right now,’’ said George. “I really want to focus on what’s at the plate now."

Every team gets 1 max contract under this new CBA (more if they can find a way to put the rest of a team on the floor)... enticing good to very good players from somewhere else is not going to be easy. So in order to keep you good to very good players you will most likely see guys like George get max or near max contracts now.

I am sure he will get it from the Pacers.

Report: Paul George near extension
The Indiana Pacers and All-Star forward Paul George are close to finalizing a five-year extension worth more than $90 million, Yahoo! Sports reported Sunday night, citing league sources.

The maximum extension is expected to be signed this week, according to the website.

George, the NBA's Most Improved Player in 2012-13, saw his scoring average rise to 19.2 points a game during the 2012-13 postseason, up from 17.4 in the regular season. He helped lead the Pacers to Game 7 of the Eastern Conference finals, where they lost to the eventual champion Miami Heat.

George told the Indianapolis Star last week that he would sign a long-term deal with the Pacers before the start of the season.

"There will be a deal signed and sealed on the table before the season," he told the newspaper. "We're on the same page."

There go any hopes of him signing with the lakers.
Every time I begin to ask, "Is he really as great as I think he is?" ...He proves that he is.
Every time I begin to wonder...He proves it...That is why I won't lose hope in him.
You know who I am talking about.

There's no hope in getting a rising star with the new CBA..... Overpaying for a falling one is entirely possible.... Melo anyone?
