PHIL JACKSON With the Knicks by End of the Week? Pg. 3

Like I said in my first post in this thread, the only way Phil makes the Lakers look bad is if he can bring top tier players to New York.

When/if he does that, then people have a right to complain and should.

I think the Knicks are paying about 15 million to keep Carmelo Anthony around for his next contract. That's about it.

I don't see how Dolan and Phil mesh at all. I don't see how they're able to really make a splash in free agency two summers from now over teams with brighter futures unless Phil is a better salesman than I think he is.

That being said, this is still a good move by the Knicks and if the salary/team ownership thing is true (not to mention the "control" he's supposed to have) then it's a good move by the Lakers to pass.

If Phil is on the Knicks, are future negotiations between the Lakers and Knicks more or less contentious?

Phil's main job will be recruiting, IMO. It's hard to turn down a man who's won 11 times...however, the Carmelo situation will be interesting...depending on what they do with Carmelo will say what direction the Knicks FO wants to go in this summer.

:man10: :man10: But seriously how does this relationship survive since there is so much conflict of interest with F.O. principals of competing organizations in a "to be married" relationship. Would not be surprised if this kills it. Jeanie must be absolutely heartsick and ready to put out a contract on her brother. I seriously feel for her. And us.

How slick would all of this have been, even though yeah Phil kind of moved in with the start dating Jeanie move…... if she was in charge? It's not like Phil had the credentials of Jimbo and started dating her. Win win win win win. :bang: :bang:

Do it Magic. Somehow get your deep pocketed partners to make it impossible for Jimbo and family to say "no".

Looks like Phil Jackson to the New York Knicks has been finalized. This should be fun.

Outside of coming back to coach the Lakers Im not understanding why PJax going to the Knicks is upsetting everyone. He has never been great a picking players. Fans complained about that all the time. He is a very smart man and I, like many others, hoped he would find his way to work with Jeanie and Jim to help the Lakers but if it didn't happen oh well. My only question is you have Jeanie over here with the Lakers and Phil over there with NY how will they function as a couple without crossing professional boundaries?
For what it's worth, the Lakers also clinched the Pacific Division, an achievement Bryant dismissed by saying "We don't hang divisions." No, only the big NBA championship banners are considered wall-worthy for the Lakers.

He's the most accomplished coach in sports history. I don't know what zen peace thing Phil stands for but he's creating chaos...he fueled the Kobe/Shaq thing, the books he writes dissing his former players. Can't he just kick back and relax at his age? Sheesh

And now this. I don't know how this is suppose to bring any catharsis for the Buss family. Thats a manipulative old man.

It became official Wednesday night – Phil Jackson is the Knicks’ new president of basketball operations.

Welp. There you have it. The last symbol of functionality that this FO MAY HAVE HAD, out the window.

Phil's talent preferences stand on their own. As does his experience as a front office leader.

4 or 5 years of Phil and then someone new after him doesn't help cement our long term rebuilding IMHO. No matter how good he may be at a position he's never held.

We will find our way. Our biggest problem is our lack of picks, a team with no tradable assets and the CBE. 20 months ago everyone was over the top happy with the team the group put on the floor….. now it's execute everyone…. I think it's somewhere between…..

It's weird that New York is claiming it's done, ESPN is claiming it's done, but some places aren't.

Until I read an article from Woj saying it's done, I don't think I'm going to buy it.

Roo, it's not about the literal aspect of Phil in the FO as it is the symbolic aspect. Us not snagging him explains to a larger degree the dysfunction of our FO. I agree he wouldn't turn the franchise inside out with his savvy VP skills...but that's the least of our worries.

Bringing in Phil would appease Kobe, appeal to free agents, and make it appear that we had some degree of order. It would also look like we had a plan. Now it just looks like brother & sister couldn't agree on doing what's good for the family.

IMO our free agent appeal just got worse. Not because of the literal lack of Phil....for what it IMPLIES.

The decision making has been erratic, to say the least. Although I applaud Mitch for his work and agree Jim has made some good personnel moves in theory....Mitch is a "yes man" to Jim, and Jim's coaching decisions have been short of putrid.

I just noticed...ESPN.com is not reporting it. Neither is ESPN New York. Saw an article from the LA Times however.

@KamBrothers: There’s gotta be a part of Phil thinking, “Holy crap! Jim’s not gonna cave and I’m gonna end up working for f------ Dolan!” AK

Ha.

@lazenby: Phil's NY deal crimps his relationship with @JeanieBuss. My guess is, none of us should pencil him in as the Knicks' main guy just yet.

Oh Lazenby, always ranting about Phil, don't even know what to think anymore.
