Celtics Would Consider Dealing Rajon Rondo

Image

The Celtics are not actively shopping Rajon Rondo, but the team is open to trading him in the right deal, according to sources.

Boston believes they need more scoring to assist Paul Pierce.

More scoring to assist Paul Pierce, eh? The dude is a stone's throw from being over the hill. They should consider trading Pierce, not Rondo.

all outward signs point to rondo being a problem in the locker room, imo. you never hear much about it, but they've been way too eager to part with a productive young player. that should be a red flag to potential landing spots for him.

The Lakers need a point guard... :man1:
With expectation comes responsibility. Respect is earned. When opportunity arises, preparation will calm nerves, inspire confidence, and help you to realize the moment. As Boston Celtics general manager Danny Ainge aggressively pursues possible deals for Rajon Rondo, the Indiana Pacers have emerged as an intriguing suitor for the point guard, league sources told Yahoo! Sports.

For the past few days, Pacers officials – and third-party surrogates – have been making calls and gathering information and insight into Rondo’s reputation as a teammate and leader, sources said.

The Pacers and Celtics have discussed the preliminary framework of a deal, but two sources said Indiana would need a third team to provide Boston with the talent it wants to do a deal. The Celtics are likely trying to gather the necessary pieces to make a bid for Ainge’s ultimate target: New Orleans point guard Chris Paul, sources said.

It was unclear if the Pacers had begun to reach out to broaden discussions, but there was an expectation they would do so.

What's with the Pacers and PGs? They took a chance on Collison after he looked fantastic in New Orleans. I think he has better upside than Rondo as far as a PG goes anyway. Rondo isn't that great a PG, he's a good defender and within the system he does a great job. Put him in any other system and he'll be exposed for not having any offensive power at all.

Pacers Exploring Trade For Rajon Rondo

By Adrian Wojnarowski, Yahoo! Sports

As Boston Celtics general manager Danny Ainge aggressively pursues possible deals for Rajon Rondo(notes), the Indiana Pacers have emerged as an intriguing suitor for the point guard, league sources told Yahoo!

The Celtics are likely trying to gather the necessary pieces to make a bid for Ainge’s ultimate target: New Orleans point guard Chris Paul(notes), sources said.

It was unclear if the Pacers had begun to reach out to broaden discussions, but there was an expectation they would do so.

The Celtics have been gauging Rondo’s trade value for more than a year, and have held discussions with teams about him across the past few trade deadlines and NBA drafts. There have long been divides within Boston’s front office, coaching staff and locker room about Rondo. He can be moody, difficult and stubborn, and several league sources were dubious if the Pacers’ young coach, Frank Vogel, would have the stature to deal with Rondo.

Boston could be trying to gather players to make a more attractive bid for Paul, sources said. New Orleans has shown no interest in a deal that would include Rondo and any combination of Celtics teammates. Yet, New Orleans GM Dell Demps is determined to get maximum value for Paul, if it’s clear the point guard sees his future elsewhere. Demps has no desire to simply let Paul walk away as a free agent to New York.

Most teams in the league are engaging New Orleans about Paul, whose intentions are to get to the New York Knicks as a free agent in the summer of 2012. Paul does have some history in Oklahoma City, having played there with the Hornets in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, but the Thunder have resisted dialogue on a Paul-for-Russell Westbrook deal, sources said.

The Thunder are prepared to make Westbrook a substantial contract offer – probably a maximum deal – in the near future.

d00d can't shoot. With Allen and Garnett likely to move on or retire next season and Pierce on the downswing of his career, Rondo doesn't make sense anymore. He's the very definition of the term "system player", and with that system no longer about to be in place, Rajon becomes expendable.

Glen Davis is a free agent, and David West's knee is still a question mark unless you just threw that in there under the assumption that the Pacers feel like the best they can get for Granger is an expiring K.

Because Granger is owed 3 years $40 mil, im sure they'd rather fill up the cap space with wing players through the FA who come at a much cheaper price than Granger. They get a bigman (West) and just need to put a couple of shooters/defenders around him

Then why not sign West outright, and trade Granger for a better piece? Granger does have trade value. I agree with abeer, if you have cap space, then there is no reason to trade your best trade asset for someone that you can sign without a trade.

whoa whoa....why trade granger?..He is their best player by far. West is okay but if you take paul away I am not 100% sure he is that great of a player.

Not sure if you were talking to me...but I was just telling The Rock that there would be no reason to trade Granger for West in a S&T when you could sign West outright and if you were intent on trading him, trading Granger for bigger pieces.

No way in hell I want him on the team...

Rondo is a good defensive PG, but he's a terrible offensive player. He has no shot and he's not even that great around the basket. His assist numbers are vastly inflated by the system he's in.

No. I'd look a lot of different places before Rondo.
