Kirie Irving has had 2 straight up garbage games so far in the preseason..
Yesterday against Chicago: 2-15 FG, 0-3 3pt FG, 8 pts, 0 assists, 2 rebounds
And today against Washington: 3/13 FG, 0-2 3pt FG, 9 pts 7 assists & 1 rebound..

Could the bad shooting be due to the hand injury he suffered in the olympics?

DeAndre Jordan is shooting 81% FG and 16% FT in the preseason.

Jordan is total garbage. All he has is his athleticism. I can't wait to see Howard/Nash take him apart.

Which is sadly a common thing in the league: players with freakish athleticism who don't develop basic fundamentals and skills, things that would really elevate their games.
Can you imagine how devastating players like Jordan or McGee would be if they developed a little jumper and improved their touch around the basket? Or what a nightmare for the rest of the NBA would be if someone like Howard (who actually has trained very hard throughout his career and improved a lot) became a consistent FT shooter?

Yeah, I mean there's so much opportunity there. It's unfortunate, at least to me, that the game is turning into a track meet instead of basketball. I honestly don't find that fun to watch. Yay, LeBron/Durant threw down a dunk in transition uncontested. That's not exciting to me.

I love watching basketball in the half court or in semi-transition. Those moments take skill. Being an athlete doesn't mean you're a good basketball player. Guys like Jordan and McGee, to me at least, are just not smart enough to be talented basketball players. But since they're getting rewarded with 40, 50, 60 million dollar contracts, it doesn't matter. They won't develop those skills because they don't need to.

Agreed. I would rather watch Nash shoot a mid-range J off a curl than watch a Blake Griffin putback or something like that. Don't get me wrong, I love the dunk as much as the next guy, but I'm usually leaning towards displays of skills & fundamentals over athleticism.. Things that take a lot of work and dexterity, that aren't random results, things that wow me as a basketball fan and player. (Dirk's shooting, kobe's footwork, for example)

I have people like that so far down on my list, in terms of ranking players at position, it's not even funny. Blake Griffin wouldn't even be top 10 on my PF list (Yes I'm serious), because once you take away the dunks and flops, he's pretty average to below average at everything else. Same with DJ, McGee, etc...

It's cool to see in the top 10, but in terms of wanting players like that on my team, pass...

I get your point, but top 10 rankings are really dependant of the criteria you are using.. For example, if we're ranking power forwards, and we're doing it in terms of skill-set and basketball fundamentals, then damn right Griffin isn't in the top 10.. BUT, if you're talking perceived statistical production, which is the way they all (analysts, writers, etc) do it, then it would be hard to exclude someone like him.. He has big scoring numbers and big rebounding numbers with good FG% and that's it, to analysts he's among the best PFs -thinking with that criteria in mind..
The only ranking I would do would be in terms of which players I like watching the most, going from the base that what I value the most are true basketball skills and fundamentals, versatility, work ethic, clutchness and leadership.
Just to see what I'm talking about, I'd have Nash in my top 10 (out of all players) unquestionably. I would put Dirk in there, and even Manu Ginobili would make it (yes he flops, but he's TOUGH, very clutch, very versatile and a mean competitor). Kobe and Durant would top the list. I'd have Rondo pretty high because even though he can't shoot (and I hate non-shooters) he's ALWAYS really elevated his game in the playoffs, always been among the top playoff performers, and I really respect that.

Not saying Kobe's better than Jordan, just saying I've never seen a guy with such ability to hit tough shots.

I agree with everything you said; all I was saying is that Kobe regularily takes and hits more tough jumpers (over 1-2 guys, falling away, hand in the face, etc) than anyone I've ever seen. Yeah Jordan was able to do it from time to time, so were/are some other players, but nothing like what Kobe did/does, not in that frequency and with such success. That video shows just ONE game, and there are already loads of incredible shots that only a handful of guys could ever hit, and they weren't doing it every game, not even close.
I only pointed it out because while maybe it doesn't make Kobe better per se, it is a big part of why I find him so fun to watch.
