He's very FAR from being a rotation player on a good team from what I've seen when he was with the Grizz... anyways for one year at the minimum , we can "bet" on him

^There isn't another one.

Here are the list of Zags who've played in the NBA/ABA.

waste of 6 11" IMO, all he does is shoot 3's, which is what I guess Antoni is looking for. To me he's just a really tall SG with not much handle, athleticism, nor post skills and definetly not much defense for either. But meh beggers can't be choosers now. Maybe coming back home will give him some comfort and make him at least servicable

I like his potential (at only 25 years old) and I have faith that he may thrive on a good team, in a big market, coming home and with the potential to earn enough attention to get another contract down the line. These kinds of guys (underachievers with high potential in contract years) are nice to have because they are motivated and have yet to put everything together...as well as being cheap and easily expendable should they wind up bust.
The End is nigh. Time for a total Cut and Shuffle. Kobe contract was a mistake...time to avoid making more. The future is here, whether we want it to be or not. An era is over, but for the death rattle, and it's time for the cycle to begin anew. Growth and change are scary and painful, but alas...nothing worth achieving comes easily.

Morrison didn't do much cheering. He just sat there showing off his porn 'stache.

I had hopes for Adam after he bulked up in Europe, but guess if he's not around the NBA anywhere now, he never got any consistent shooting back. Funny.... he and Reddick were good friends in college but most would have put their money on Morrison being better in the NBA than JJ.

We pursued Dan Dickau a few years back If I remember correctly.

Mitch attends 2 or 3 Zags games a year and seems to know Few fairly well.

Alright I had to go look on Youtube to see who the bleep he is and first one I look into is this. Oh hell yes give me some of this talent at 1:28 with the crossover to be on the squad with the talented guys we have offensively.....Pau and Kobe first and foremost if he wants to WORK, learn and be a better big all the way around. That was sweet! But not even in the class of Gasol's epic leading the fast break around 3-4 years ago with the behind-the-back-through-the-legs-dribble at 80% speed near half court with the underhanded assist. One of the greatest Gasol Lakers moments ever. :man4: :man4:

But it takes some nice touch and skill to be that tall and pull off that nice of a crossover. Dwight could never do that. Gasol maybe (maybe not.....don't remember any killer "crossovers") could do it better but that showed me he has some game. Shoots it nice. If no D then what the eff. Dan don't care. It's a FUN year anyway..... right?

Alex Kennedy of HoopsWorld wrote:Austin Daye – At just 25 years old, Daye is younger than many of the players on this list. However, he’s at a crucial point in his career after failing to stick with the Detroit Pistons and Memphis Grizzlies. He needs to find a situation where he can flourish because he’s running out of opportunities to prove himself and may soon get the dreaded journeyman label.
A few teams have expressed interest in Daye, most recently the Los Angeles Lakers. No signing is imminent at this point, but Daye worked out for Lakers officials on Wednesday. Since his 2012-13 season came to an end, Daye has been working out at Impact Basketball in Las Vegas, where he trains every summer and holds his own against fellow NBA players. It’s clear that Daye has the talent to make it in the league – he just needs to find a team that can help him grow and make the most of his skills.

If there comes a point where LO coming back isn't happening for sure, then I would be ok with taking a chance on Daye. There is some potential still there, and it might be worth taking a chance because again this offseason the Lakers hit the reset button anyway. If he is still the same 5 points, 2 boards guy after this season, of well, no harm done, don't re-sign him.

Before I started to do more in-depth research into translatable skills, I'd applaud Mitch for making these moves...Wesley Johnson, Austin Daye. These are high lottery pick reclamation projects, and frankly, if you're never drafting in the first round (which we haven't, in ages), then this is probably the next best thing to get young talent. Not super young talent, but still quite young, at ages 24 and 25, and you hope that the players have matured enough to adapt to the NBA setting and hope that you can squeeze out any ounce of potential these players once (and still) possess.

That being said...Austin Daye possesses a disproportionate body frame. It's near Ndudi Ebi territory. 6'11" AND 200 lbs? He's already 25, so if he hasn't been able to put any weight since he was drafted, well...he'll likely never put on weight. We can easily blame it on the narrow shoulders. And this really hinders him--how often do you see a 6'11" guy camp out 16 feet and beyond? He's also a super paltry rebounder, but he gets a reasonable steal and block combination, and with some proper teaching (read: not us), he has some ability to contest shots with his length as well. He's really an oversized backup small forward at best in this league, and that could have its uses though. He needs to be keyed to his strengths though, because he has clearly defined weaknesses. Athletic three point gunners seem to be our thing here.

Daye is probably a guy who can look at a Radmanovic as a laker type ceiling. H can spot up and shoot. He is tall but not real physical. He can get up but isn't a bruiser or a glass cleaner. He can be a 3 ala Space Cadet, just has to accept being a niche guy

His frame reminds me so much of Tayshaun Prince.. I think Prince was deceivingly strong though, where Daye is still weak & that will most likely stop him from ever being able to use that length to become a good defender.. He can shoot the 3 & he's yet another former lottery pick that didn't live up to his potential. Like rydjorker121 said I like these type of moves from Mitch to compensate for always trading our picks/never being in the lottery.. Eventually we're going to get lucky with 1 of these guys & they'll live up to their potential.

FYI, I'm a bigger fan of 6'11" 200 lb players than I am of 6'7" 240 lb types. Height is a better indicator for NBA success.

Not sure I follow this.... Charles Barkley at PF would have never happened..... and Chuck Nevitt would be your starter.....

If you can play they will find a spot for you. Daye's size isn't his problem. It's where he want's to play and how he sees himself that is the problem. He plays like a soft 2 guard. That worked in a Triangle lite offense like Gonzaga's because ball handling wasn't that important.... but in our offense he's a PF and there is no way he even wants to go in the paint much less make his living there. He's always had the attitude that he should be the leading scorer in a Kevin Durant model..... he used to get in trouble all the time at Gonzaga for breaking the offense with some fade-away three pointer in the corner that missed by 3 feet.

So far in the NBA he's not been able to make any adjustments to his game.... I'm not sure he want's to either.
