Rockets nab Aaron Brooks

Rockets nab Aaron Brooks

Postby JSM on Sat Mar 02, 2013 5:04 pm

Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo wrote: The Houston Rockets will sign guard Aaron Brooks, league sources told Yahoo! Sports.

Brooks agreed to a buyout with the Sacramento Kings on Friday and is expected to clear waivers early next week.

Because Brooks was released before the midnight March 1 deadline, he is eligible to be on the postseason roster for another team.

Brooks signed a two-year, $6.6 million contract with the Kings over the summer. He's averaged eight points in just 21 minutes a game this season. The Kings have given increasing minutes to young guards Isaiah Thomas and Jimmer Fredette.

Brooks had his best season in the NBA with the Rockets three years ago, averaging 19 points and five assists per game.

Really not looking forward to him dropping 30+ on us. He always had career games against us when he was in Houston.

meh. i get why brooks would want to go play for a team tha would help him pad his stats going into FA. not sure why houston would sit beverly after he's played ok for them.

Beverly has played well for them...but Aaron Brooks is an upgrade at the back up PG spot. He also has familiarity with the Rockets. I think he's gonna do really well for them...although i hope thats not the case!!!

i just don't see it as a landscape shifter. unless houston wants to play even smaller, i'm not sure it impacts their win total.

dallas is too far out of it right now, but he might have helped them quite a bit given how little they've had behind collison (and how little they've gotten from collison...).

You can blame Jim Carrey for Collison's production....he killed collison's confidence when he started DEREK EFFING FISHER over him...and then was trying to find any old, washed up PG on the market to replace Collison or at least take minutes away from Collison....and he got Mike James now to do that. I dont understand Carlisle's beef with Collison....you don't do that to young PG's that have potential to be top 10 at their position....why bring in old vets who aren't even doing you any good? Mike James is TERRIBLE yet he gets 25 mpg and he plays in crunch time....ridiculous.

carlisle's a good coach. i'm not sure why he plays mike james, but i get why he doesn't like collison. he's just not a guy who makes plays for others, and his offense is streaky. defensively, he's small, and that ends up being a problem most nights.

anyway, as the poster above has indicated, laker fans probably have a skewed perception of the talents of tiny scoring guards. they have made careers out of feasting on the lakers for over a decade. against most other teams, many of these guys are liabilities.

i mean, these small scoring pg's like brooks and barea are decent players but it just always seems like when they play against the lakers they explode for career nights

barea almost single-handedly beat the lakers in the playoffs 2 years ago and i can't remember how many times one of these guys has dropped 30 against LA

...in the off-season if Brooks would sign with Houston people would say "CHAMPIONSHIP" and redicule them...

but everything has changed these days...fighting for the 8th spot is so surreal considering what everyone thought just 4 months ago.

crazy stuff. spectecular flop.

We just don't even try to make the small moves..... It's marketable stars or nothing it seems. This year we just might get both.

Carlisle has his reasons...whatever that may be.

Collison has praised Carlisle the whole season and stated that Carlisle was one of the reasons why he wants to stay in Dallas. He also said that Carlisle has been working with him and helping him improve his game every single day, which is something he hasn't had in a very long time.

Waiving Josh Shelby means Cavs now have roster spot AND cap space to claim Aaron Brooks off waivers IF they wish before HOU can sign Brooks

Brooks has a $3.4 player option for next season, does Cleveland want that? But since it seems Brooks wants to be a Rocket, he might not exercise the option if Cleveland does claim him.

i promise he wants the three million more, because he's not getting that offer in the summer.

which sort of highlights kb's point from earlier: this is a non-story.

Good move for them. We never seem to make these types of moves. Brooks is a very good player.... I'd say he's as good as anyone we have on our bench if not better. On top of that he has what we don't.... speed and athleticism. Ugh....

why? he's not a pg. he's putting up 8/2 in 20mpg on 44/38. blake's doing 5/4 on 43/42. add in that blake's not a liability on defense, and i'd rather have blake playing the minutes for la. brooks is a better fit for houston, but i'm not bummed about the lakers missing out on a guy that--again--just about everybody has turned down over the past couple of years.

I wanted Brooks but I understand the FO's thinking. We have Nash/Blake/Duhon/Morris...it's stupid to pick up another pg especially if we're over the cap and we have to pay dollar for dollar.

I think we need a backup big more than a 5th pg. But yes, I would've loved to have signed Brooks anyways.
