Rodman...still trying to get back in the NBA

Postby JSM on Thu Nov 13, 2003 5:43 pm

This guy must be poor or something, because he is desperately trying to get back into the league...too bad no one wants him anymore.

Chicago Tribune: Will the Worm play in Beijing? Dennis Rodman may be taking his act to China in his latest effort to get back into the NBA. Sources close to the former Bulls forward insist he's seriously considering playing for a month in the Chinese professional league that sent center Yao Ming to the NBA.

Rodman hopes to get back into playing condition in order to convince a contending NBA team to sign him after the All-Star break. Rodman's people made overtures to Bulls GM John Paxson about his services before the season began, but were quickly rebuffed.

Rodman's friends claim he has been alcohol-free since his DUI arrest on Oct. 19 in Las Vegas. You can catch up with Rodman Friday on "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno."

I hope Rodman stops his self-destructive behavior and focuses on something he enjoys. It's just sad when you hear about him getting arrested every week.
Slava laughed at the suggestion his skills might be affected by the down time. "Are you kidding?" he said. "Basketball is like ball. It's all a circle."

wow..Rodman is so desperate even going to, but he's too old now and him rebounding skills have gone over to the likes of guys like Vladimir Stepania and Tyrone Hill, both signed recently as FAs, so he's not wanted anymore, aggressive behavior, bad attitude, blah...

Looks like his NBA plans may have to go on hold for a little while.

ESPN: Dennis Rodman has voluntarily entered himself into a program for alcohol abuse, his agent said Monday.

Darren Prince, of Prince Marketing Group, said the former NBA rebounding champion has been seeing a private counselor for the past 3½ weeks.

"Next week will be Dennis' one-month anniversary, but we'll take it one day at a time," Prince said.

Prince said Rodman, 42, still wants to play in the NBA this year but first must get his life in order before contacting teams for tryouts.

Rodman was charged Oct. 20 with driving under the influence of alcohol after he crashed a motorcycle while doing stunts outside a Las Vegas strip club. He was not jailed. Prince said at the time that he's confident the charges will be dropped.

"He was not even intoxicated. He had a couple of drinks and was getting ready to head back home to Newport Beach to continue training for his comeback to the NBA," Prince said in a statement.

Prince said last month that Rodman had been "training like crazy" in preparation for NBA tryouts. Rodman, who last played in the NBA in 2000 with the Dallas Mavericks, had hoped for a tryout with the Denver Nuggets but it didn't pan out.

When Rodman was playing, he was a tough defender and rebounding machine. He was in great shape at the time. Could have played a few more solid seasons. Alas, too much partying and his Vegas gambling problem did him in. Maybe he wants to play again because he's broke. I know he admitted for being a big time gambler. He couldve done great things for a team if he was focused.
