It's going to be weird not knowing what team will get the 1st pick in the draft lottery each year.

Can you just not wait until we're celebrating the David Stearn Trophy every season for Championships?

Probably true, but at least I don't hate looking at Silver's smug little rat face like with Stern.

Only two years. Well I cannot wait. The NBA will be a much better league without David Stern. He has done a horrible job as commissioner.

As much as I dislike him, Stern did some great things for the game and the sport of basketball (expansion, globalization, profitability). Although Magic, Bird and Jordan had a lot to do with that as well.

But for the last decade (really ever since the mid-2000s) he's been awful. Really glad he's going to be gone in 2014.

Yeah, but like most men in positions of power, he overstayed his welcome. It's time for him to go and it has been for a while.

Stern's marketing and contracts with the networks saved the game in the 80's.... yeah there was Magic, Bird and Jordan but he sold and packaged them. Before he came along the NBA was behind Hockey in popularity for awhile... and that's when most of the Hockey teams were still in Canada.

He's had some issues over the last decade and a half but as far as sports commissioners go he's done an overall good job trying to do what's best for the league as a whole.

Stern should have retired with MJ in 1998. Up until then, he was nails as a commish. He was a good peacetime commish. Peace time meaning, he had Magic, Bird and MJ carrying the torch. But wartime, not so good. Two lockouts, zone defense, Dounaghy scandal. And of course, basketball reasons and the amazing coincidence of 1st overall picks going to recent teams that lost their superstars.
