Steve Blake Discussion: Traded To Warriors

I'd be fine bringing Blake back if we had someone more competent AHEAD of him. I want a more reliable, less likely to get injured backup.

Wait... You want someone to replace Nash in the lineup? Or you want someone to push Blake to 3rd?

Blake to 3rd is the most I can ask/expect, I don't think we will ditch Nash after the reasons he signed here and how good of a teammate he's been, saying and doing all the right things. Preferably I'd like to see Nash replaced and maybe pushed to the bench moving Blake to 3rd, but realistically I don't see it.

Yeah realistically we just bring back both Steves and try to find a younger, more talented guy at the 1 than Morris...

But MOST realistically is that all 3 come back and Duhon leaves. :man10:

Nash/Blake/Duhon/Morris can all go.

The sooner we start over at PG the better. Or at least choose between Nash/Blake and put a younger more athletic PG behind/in front of them.

Going into next season with two 30+ injury prone PG's is just a mistake waiting to happen.

Blake should stay as a backup. You can't really scout what he brings and that kind of attitude is missing in a lot of our players. Imagine D12 with Blake's mindset.... :man4:

He can play the 2 in certain lineups so it' doesn't matter if we have Nash and new starting PG. Especially with Kobe out, he's going to see minutes in a 2 point guard lineup.

Thanks Stevie for really stepping it up late in the season. Your play was instrumental when Nash was out. Gave the team a lot of heart. Maybe you can take a page out of Kobe's book now and teach MDA how to coach.

Would gladly roll with him next season as our backup unless a better option presents itself which I find unlikely.

Blake is a perfect backup. I would like him to stay, if possible.

Perfect backup? Maybe I'm just expecting too much, but I think it's been so long since we've had an athletic, energy backup PG off the bench that we forget what it's like and what we're missing. We're used to having a guy now that comes in and tries to not mess things up, not lose a lead, just play solid, and I want more than that, I want a guy that's going to be able to score, bring energy, push a lead. Blake is good, he has been solid, and I appreciate how well he played the last month of the season to help get us to the playoffs, had some really big games, but he has some areas he lacks in I'd like to see addressed with a new backup.

For one, I think I can count on one hand how many layups Blake has attempted this season on one hand, let alone made. We have the moment a starting PG and a backup PG that cannot get themselves to the hoop for a layup, that doesn't seem to work too well in today's league. If not for Sessions last season I'd have forgotten what it feels like to have a PG that can do that. Also, while his defensive effort has been solid all season, he's still often outmatched. His shooting had been so so until he started scoring the last month or so of the season, and it's not even that he shot poorly, it's that he shot so little that if he was going 0-2 or 1-3 it looks bad because he just wasn't making an impact, again, bringing no spark or energy, just being 'solid'. And lastly, the injuries, my goodness the injuries, the spike strip, the ab tear, and now the hamstring, the guy played 45 games this season, 45, and he's not young, he's 33 years old.

All that said, at the moment off the top of my head I can't think of a realistic backup we can get that fits those needs I brought up (being able to get to the rim and make layups and at the same time using the speed or skill to draw defenders and find open guys, more of a scorer, better defense, younger, less injury prone), so we're probably stuck if not for a trade or someone becoming available for part of the MLE or something. I'm just tired of keeping the same players and expecting a different result. Every season Blake is not quite the guy we expected and he fights some injuries, but he's 'solid'. To point out what I miss, I know that Farmar was not great and made a lot of dumb plays, Blake is a better player, but he brought energy at least half the time, he could get to the rim and make layups and plays that sparked the team along with Shannon Brown. I miss a player like that, really wish we could find a younger scoring/energy PG off the bench somehow.

I think Hill goes all out, but this team is just obliterated.

Starting PG - likely out
Backup PG - gone
Starting SG - gone
Backup SG - likely out
Backup PF - played one game in last three months
Third string SG - signed a week ago
Coach's decisions: one backup PG isn't allowed to play; one backup SF isn't allowed to play

Good thing we realistic fans don't use the injury as an excuse. Just give D12 and Pau 30 shots a game and we will be golden. :jam2:

Get well Blakester.

He's been playing extremely well. It's about time. Anyways, I know I'm probably in the minority, but I would still trade him or just dump him. He's been inconsistent since he's been here & even with him playing well this year, he's been injury prone. We don't have the flexibility to get rid of him right now, though.

C'mon puffy, Blake's been absolute garbage this preseason, I'm just having a little fun. I know he's here to stay and he's starting SG with Kobe out, so of course I hope he does well. Last night was a great game for him, he battled on defense with Hayward all night, and he should have been dominated by him but he wasn't, he held his own. On offense, that was just ridiculous, 7-7, and it would have been 8-8 if not for that moving screen on Nash, he was on fire. I'd love for his shot to just get on track, it's been short so often this preseason, last night it was finally finding falling.

I know everyone is having fun but I cringe every time someone is called garbage. Especially when they are working hard. It seems like our entire team is a bunch of hard workers this year.

I obviously don't mean he himself is garbage, I like Blake, I only mean he has played like garbage. Most nba players work really hard, it's how they get where they are and stay there, doesn't excuse garbage play because they work or try hard, it's not personal, that's just how it goes.

Actually, I don't think anyone would actually call Blake itself garbage. Anyone who's listen to him and watched him through the years know he's actually a pretty nice guy.

I won't bash his game for now. He's been pretty bad this preseason (ok, awful, save for the last game), but he did earn a little more of confidence from my part with the way he finished last season.
