Wall nearing $80 million deal with Wizards

Wall nearing $80 million deal with Wizards

John Wall has not lived up to the hype that came along with the expectations he was placed under after being the No. 1 pick in the 2010 Draft, but he will be eligible for a contract extension this offseason as he enters the final year of his rookie deal.

And in Wall's eyes, he is a max player and worth that contract from the Washington Wizards.

"I feel like I am. I do, definitely," Wall said.

Still, Wall has not started thinking about a possible extension.

"Look, I’m just enjoying D.C," Wall said. "This hasn’t been going the way we wanted it to, in terms of winning, but I think we are building something here."

The max contract after the rookie deal isn't THAT bad. Based on potential alone, someone will throw money at him... might as well be the Wizards.

Yep. He's been banged up, but he's still very young and very raw.

I've seen him live (along with LeBron, Wade, Kobe, and Griffin) and I think he's every bit as athletic as them. The guy simply flies around a basketball court. And while he's not exactly a great PG, he's got some ability in that department.

I honestly think he needs to get into a winning program though. Go to LA or to San Antonio or to Boston. Because he needs people to put some muscle on his frame AND he needs good leadership. He's been given keys to a ship, but it's a paddle boat in the ocean surrounded by yachts. He's got to get to a place where he can learn and where he can develop without being leaned on as the only one worth a s***.

I thought for a while I'd like him here, but I think it might be a year too late. He needed someone like Kobe to be able to show him how to play here. Maybe Nash could. But either way, there's not a lot of hope for bringing Wall to LA.

He's got all the potential in the world to be a great PG. He needs to develop a jumpshot, though. As of right now, his jumpshot is too inconsistent; however, if he works on that and becomes efficient in that area, it will only make him that much better. He does have good length on the defensive end and the ability to become a good defensive PG, IMO.

I don't know if I'd offer him a Max Contract right now, though. It's going to be interesting to see how Washington approaches this; IMO, they'll give him a Max-deal...

There are only like 4-5 guys in the league right now that should be getting max.

John Wall is about 20-30 spots off that mark to be generous.

It sounds as if a reporter asked him the question. What else is he (John Wall) supposed to say other than that?

He'll get it based on potential, but I don't think he deserves it. And out of all the young up-and-coming PGs out there, he's the one I'm the least sold on.

Considering the god damn BUCKS are about to pay JJ Redick 5 yrs 40M? John Wall WILL be worth the max based on market value alone. Either the wizards will be stupid enough to pay him that, or some other idiot team will throw money at him. I'd probably take ty lawson over him and he's gonna be 5-6M cheaper per year....

Well.... we paid Luke Walton a little over 30 Million..... and Redick actually contributes.... From that perspective he's a veritable bargain..... :man10:

As for Wall.... he's got the tools but not too sure about the rest of the package yet. Since max slots are one to a team these days I would be pissed if the Lakers offered this guy a Max slot..... but then again there are 29 teams that aren't the Lakers.....

I love John Wall's game....outside of his 3 point shooting. He really looks to get his teammates involved. I think he would be great with Dwight, but his outside shooting, concerns me. If this guy shot like Steph Curry from the outside, this guy would absolutely be worth a max deal right now. As it stands, he does have some areas of weakness, and places to improve in his game, but I think he's one of the best young point guards, and agree that if he were in a market like LA, he would thrive considerably.

He's a good player, but raw. Fast, tall, athletic, can penetrate, but can't shoot. He has to work on his game. In any case, I think he is worth around 8M per year... how much is the max for someone after their rookie contract? I will say that he is one of the best young PGs, but he's not as good as, say, Irving.

Well, I'll tell you he certainly put a show against the Lakers last night. Although, it seems all PG's seem to have a field day against us. Anyways, he's been playing great recently. He has all the potential in the world to become an elite PG in the league. Quickness, length, decision-making, leadership, a fiery competitive nature, etc. He might have turned a corner. As long as his jump-shot his consistent, he'll be a nightmare to guard.

If he gets to play against Nash and Blake every game he's going to deserve the max..... :man10:

It was like watching a highschool kid playing against a 5th grader out there in terms of speed and athleticism.

He's very raw and his game needs a ton of work but the natural ability is definitely there.

John Wall has been on a tear...not just against the Lakers though...he has been really good over the past month and who knows where the Wizards woulda been if they were healthy to start the season....hard to believe thsi team started 7-33 and they've gone 18-11 since then....
