I have seen a deal that might work:

Yao for Sura, Murphy, Popeye Jones

Here are the salaries:

Yao>>>thrw 06 is $14,179,347

Bob Sura>>> $6,166,667
Murphy>>> $1,506,960 + 2,231,808 + 3,104,445
Jones>>> $1,070,000

TOTAL=14,079,880

Yao= $14,179,347
Other 3= $14,079,880

once francis and mobley realize Yao is THE FRANCHISE, they will dump it into him every time! I think if they run their offense thru Yao, they will be successful and make the playoffs this year! Im rootin for Yao and Francis, i believe they form a great tandem. Watch out for the rockets this year!

I do not think Yao will be a Rocket this coming year. I think the Rockets are stupid enough to make that deal.

Man, look at the Warriors line-up if this goes threw:

Yao
Foyle
Richardson
Dunleavy
Van Exel

That would be a line up to deal with.

Trading Yao would rank among the most idiotic GM moves in the history of the game.

He's a franchise style player who put up decent numbers in his first year.

I can't imagine the Rockets ever even considering trading him.

They said the Warriors should have waited to make the Van Exel-Jamison trade until next year, so they could save the money to make a run for Yao during Free Agency...

http://www.bayarea.com/mld/cctimes/sports/6566412.htm

[/quote]It's the timing that baffles. You don't make this trade now. You make it next year.

If it was cap space they wanted why not wait until after the season to move Jamison? It's not like they will be able to sign any big-name free agents this late in the free-agent signing period.

The Warriors want to sign a big-name free agent. It's no secret that team president Robert Rowell is infatuated with Yao Ming. He sees dollar signs when he thinks about the popular Chinese center playing in the Bay Area, which has a large Asian population. Never mind that Yao won't be a restricted free agent until after the 2005-2006 season, by which point the Warriors will have been staring at 11 straight years without a playoff appearance.

Why would the Houston Rockets let their budding superstar go? Even if they did, why on earth would Yao Ming want to play for the Golden State Warriors? If team officials couldn't convince Arenas to stay why do they think they can get Yao Ming to come?

Very simple answer to why the Warriors have a great chance at nabbing Yao once he becomes a free agent. Unlike Houston, L.A. and the Bay Area have a huge Chinese community. Just like Wang Zhizhi when he was a free agent, Yao would prefer to either play in the Bay area or L.A. Think of that, if Shaq was to retire we would have a chance at Yao. :jam2:

Shaq has 6-8 years in him. Unless he decides that his police uniform is more important than his Laker jersey, which means 3-4 years.

sure u may think 6-8 years but by 38 hell by totally out of shape and fat most likely, i say shaq has 5 years left, but the extension we sign him for better not be 20+ mill a season... :disagree:
LaKeRsDyNaStY

Postby BoogieKnight on Tue Aug 19, 2003 7:50 pm

He's already getting paid 20 + mill. I don't think he's gonna take a pay cut with the extension.

by that age he doesnt deserve 20 + mill, with how much hes making we cant sign anyone else good.. :disagree:
LaKeRsDyNaStY

Postby FabFourLakers on Tue Aug 19, 2003 9:25 pm

why wouldnt he deserve 20+ mil? If Garnett can get more than shaq, there is something wrong with the NBA and its GM's cuz Garnett hasnt done [Swearing is not permitted at Clublakers. You must edit this post prior to submitting.] yet and Shaq has won mvp awards and titles.
