This might be a better series then the finals.

What's up with the Grizzlies and these slow starts? You can't always be coming back from big deficits and still win.

The Grizzlies are getting destroyed right now. I mean... crushed.

They look scurred. Spurs are moving the ball around extremely well, and guarding Gasol and Randolph well. Still, the Grizzlies shouldn't get too down and remember the Spurs were up 2-0 on OKC last season before losing 4 straight.

Spurs came out in the 1st quarter with a knock-out punch. In the 2nd quarter, the Grizz settled down and held San Antonio to 20 points.

It will be interesting to see how the 2nd half goes.

I kind of figured this was what I was going to see regarding the Spurs. Now it depends on if the Grizzlies can make adjustments.

22 points for Spurs in the 3rd quarter. Grizz score 20 points.

So other than the 1st quarter, the difference between the two teams isn't that large.

Grizzlies will have to try again; they came out scared and were not able to return from an early deficit.

Spurs 11-pt lead early in the 4th quarter... talent, poise and experience, all in the silver & black.

If the Spurs keep shooting 3's like they did in the 1st and 4th quarters, they're going to be hard to beat.

Live by the 3, die by the 3. The treys won't always fall as consistently as they are tonight (13/24) but the point is that they create spacing on the floor and the Spurs have great ball movement.

I don't know, I mean, okay here's the kicker. Say San Antonio goes on to win this series, then face Miami in the finals I assume, what if they totally flop?

How do you explain beating a Grizzlies team that beat a team with the runner up in MVP, and beat a team with another MVP candidate (CP3 Clippers), then go on to lose to Miami who kind of struggled a little with the undermanned Bulls in some games, and a old Celtics team, well they won both series but sometimes they couldn't pull away. How do we explain if the Spurs lose to Miami but was able to defeat younger quicker teams in the west with so much athleticism?

I don't understand Jazzy, any team is capable of a flop at any point. If Memphis were to win, who is to say they wouldn't flop against Miami?

Besides, the playoffs are like a marathon, elite teams that struggle early build up momentum going towards the Finals. The Heat have been there, they know they're headed there again, toying with Chicago and Boston means nothing. If the Spurs and Heat meet in the Finals, it would be both teams playing at the top of their game.

Well.... SA put together great first and 3rd quarters to blow this one out.

I had a sneaking suspicion that this might happen. SA hasn't really hit on all cylinders yet IMO. Memphis is a great defensive team but will have trouble if they can't keep SA below 30 in a quarter on a regular basis.

Not too surprised. At home everyone hits threes. Give Memphis time, maybe a home game or two.

Remember too that this was a payback game. SA will come back down to earth.

That is the way SAS wanted to start... Lets see how Griz respond.
For what it's worth, the Lakers also clinched the Pacific Division, an achievement Bryant dismissed by saying "We don't hang divisions." No, only the big NBA championship banners are considered wall-worthy for the Lakers.

The Spurs looked great. Tony looked as good as I've seen him in the PO's. When he's playing like the best PG in the NBA, the Spurs are going to be tough for any team to beat. He can do it all on the offensive end. It sure does help though when you're team almost shoots 50% from the three point line. Defensively, they held Randolph in check & worked hard to make things difficult for Memphis in the paint.

However, the Spurs looked great last year when the faced OKC the first two games; Memphis are also notoriously slow starters. They fell down 2-0 to the Clippers & have lost every 1st game in every round this year. They seem to thrive playing through adversity. However, they never lost a game in this fashion being blown out; in addition, never have had to come back in this PO's against a quality opponent in the Spurs.

This series is going to be a chess match. It comes down to Tony Parker, IMO. When he's controlling the game, dissecting the defense, hitting shots, making plays, the Spurs are going to win in 6. Memphis has to figure out how to contain him, IMO

Grizz have to make the defensive adjustments from playing teams which kept the ball on one side off the floor for the most part ( Clippers , OKC) to a team which always moves the ball side to side

Memphis didn't look ready and there was little communication on D ... they refuse to guard Bonner and the corner 3 , that's why they lost .

It will be a long series though

yeah, i didn't see the game, but i'm not at all surprised that a) the spurs shot the three like crazy in a game 1 at home and b) they won because of this.

those shots don't fall as often on the road, and the spurs stars, imo, have a tendency to get weaker as the series gets longer. Memphis just needs to get both at home, then it's a three-game series, and you're the younger, stronger team.

plus, as bad as that game may have looked, if the grizz steal game 2, the spurs are the ones on their heels.
