Gay and Mayo did provide a sizable scoring punch for Memphis which was I was skeptical of the Grizzlies getting past the Clippers. To fill that void so far, others have stepped up such as Conley and Poindexter. Gasol's game also improved on offense whereas Randolph gets more touches. Bayless has replaced Mayo nicely. Prince is a stabilizing presence on the floor and is still a very heady defender.

Memphis is a really interesting team in a sense it shows you how 2 way players are rare in Basketball ...

You can see Hollins is always thinking " should I go with Bayless or Allen for defensive purposes down the stretch ? " , same with Quincy ( who is a decent defender and a decent shooter) and Prince .

Hollins managed this very well down the stretch in Game 2 between timeouts ... but this isn't always doable .

I think both Mayo and Gay were not good fits in Memphis ... sure they provided scoring but they had a tendency to chuck quick and long shots which doesn't do well with Grizz halfcourt game and the constant effort on D wasn't there

I would say both suck at coaching ( something I really think) but you can't be clueless as a pro coach , can you ?

Grizz have little outside shooting , I would double Z-Bo/Marc off Allen/Prince on a consistent basis...

That's the reason I think SAS would advance if they face Memphis in the WCF ... Pop won't let Z-Bo/Marc beat them

Agreed

I think both Brooks and Del Negro should be fired BTW

Agreed. With Gay and Mayo...there were not enough shots for the aforementioned players to improve and gain confidence in themselves. They also were not good defenders too. Hollins has imposed their power game on opponents this year.
No siggie...

Second that. I'd like to add Woodson and Spoelstra to the list of not-ready-for-prime-time coaches.

What's wrong with Spoelstra? He just won a championship ring last season. His teams were always great defensively, and now the Heat won 66 games. He might not be Popovich, but I think he deserves a little more credit than he generally gets from people.

What's wrong with Brooks?

I get that he's not prime time, but bad coach? Coaches have their philosophies...but I agree with you guys. Memphis doesn't have the outside shooting to deal with a double team inside.

But Pjax never implemented zone defense, had trouble with zone defenses, and didn't like the pick and roll.

I see everyone is watching this game. :man10: :man10:

OKC absolutely has to win the next game. No ifs or buts. If they lose it, they lost the series.

Memphis does an excellent job making these low scoring games. Of course, it would be much more difficult for them if Westbrook was healthy but hey...

If GSW could pull their heads out of their [Swearing is not permitted at Clublakers. You must edit this post prior to submitting.] and beat SAS, then the Grizzlies probably would make the Finals. But if it ends up being SAS vs MEM WCF, Ginobili and Parker are going to be more than a handful.

This was supposed to be Jerkins series to prove his value to the team. Instead Brooks has dropped his minutes considerably each game so far. Ineffective on defense, and offensively he looks to be worse that ever, and he's already terrible even at his best, so thats pretty than bad.

Look at their starting big men.....Good shot blocking from Ibaka, but other than that IMO they're both overrated defensively (Perkins much more so than Ibaka obviously), average rebounding, and useless on offense outside of being spoonfed open looks, and like clockwork they disappear in big games. And OKC has over $20M per year tied up in those two.

But whatever. Its not like they could've amnestied Jerkins last year and kept Harden....Right?

I want a Warriors/Memphis finals. But after that it's gonna be hard to watch because I don't think either team can beat Miami in the finals :man5:

Story here is Ibaka choking in this series ... he had 5 Kwame moments in Game 3... missing 2 dunks , 3 easy layups/putbacks at the rim ... and is bricking the midrange Js he made all season long .... remember he was lucky Harden bad performance against Miami was in the spotlight because he didn't do ish either in the Finals.

Martin is terrible too

Okc is still pretty good when healthy. The issue is when they lose a secondary star player to injury, it's over. If Wade goes down, LeBron and Bosh are there. Depth may look expendable on the balance sheet, but in the playoffs it saves your butt when you suffer a key injury. The same is true for Memphis, who's healthy now, but if they lose any of their starting 5 this series, it's over.

KD has been great, but he was worn out at the end of game 3, which is why he missed those free throws at the end. Depth saves your butt.

This Gasol just may be the best all around Center in the NBA. He's definitely the best down the stretch and the one with the highest BBIQ.

Too bad we had to throw him in that trade.

I definitely have him as my best all around Center in the game today. And to add to that, if the FO decided to send D12 there for him, I wouldn't be opposed.

Positional defense >>> Jumping high after sprinting across the lane to block a shot

I don't think we need to compare the offense between the two. :man10:
