Will Tracy McGrady be the youngest to 10,000 points????

My answer is........NO!!!!!!!

Here is why.

1. Kobe is the youngest to 10, 000 points at 24 years 193 days.

2. T-Mac is born May 24, 1979. So the day he turns 24 years 193 days is December 3, 2003.. which through the 2003-2004 NBA schedule is a game between Orlando and New Orleans.

3. At this point in T-Mac's career, he has 8,542 points. So he needs 1,458 points to get to 10,000 points.

4. From the start of the 2003-2004 regular season until December 3, the date T-Mac turns 24 years and 193 days, Orlando plays 18 games.

5. So if we.......1,458 divided by 18...we get 81. Tracy McGrady needs to average 81 points a game in his first 18 games to even tie Kobe as the youngest to reach 10,000 points.

NOT POSSIBLE!!!!!

I hate to say it but LeBron may wind up beating Kobe out. The Lakes had the handcuffs on Kobe for his first year. But Cleveland with nothing to lose and only promotions and advertising to gain will unleash LeBron from the start. Plus LeBron doesn't have to defer to nobody - Kobe had Shaq. I hope I'm wrong tho.

McGrady isn't half the player Kobe is. If Kobe played for that collection of stiffs we call the Orlando Magic, he'd average 35-40 points a game. It's real easy for McGrady to score 30 a game there because he's the only player on the damn team. Kinda like when Jordan used to average in the mid to high 30's back in the 80's. It's sad that the Magic can't finish any higher than the 8th seed and they play in the Leastern Conference, which has only one good team, the Nets. There are 6 or 7 teams in the West that would destroy any Leastern Conference team in a 7 game series.

T-Mac is not far from Kobe, sort of like Dominique to Jordan in the 80's, Kobe separates T-Mac with his Defense, and Rings.
Also Kobe could have scored 10,000 ever younger, if we did not have the 50 game lockout season.

when i did the math last season to see who had best chance to beat kobe's record to be youngest to 10,000 points---at that time t-mac only needed to average 50ppg, but now its even more out of reach! the one with best chance to break it is LEBRON & HE WOULD HAVE TO AVERAGE OVER 20PPG EVERY GAME OF EVERY SEASON TO BREAK IT! if he misses 5-10 games a season, he'd need over 25ppg to do it. so with the minimum age likely to go up to age 20 soon--i'll go out on a limb & say if lebron doesnt break it(AND HE IS A LONGSHOT AT BEST) then it will NEVER BE BROKEN!!!
by the way, good question & i will be coming up with some of my own as season wears, since i've been keeping good stats on kobe!!

Silas has stated that Bron will play some point. So that will take some points away from him.

Plus with players like Ricky Davis, Dajuan Wagner, Darius Miles, and Zydrunas Ilgauskas....getting shots for Lebron will be tough.

I like Kobe's chances to still have the record. Remember....Kobe came into the league at age 17. Bro will almost be 19 when the season starts.

Great post Kobe1....very enlightening...but I'm with you guys...Lebron has a chance, but will come up short, making Bryant's achievement even more of an accomplishment considering what obstacles (Del and Shaq) he had to face to get that distinction so young.

no way lebron breaks this record. he's a big time player but he's not a big time scorer. he's more of a team player. he probably likes to make the great pass over the great shot. i would put my money on him not breaking it. i don't he'll even come close

Here's the thing with that: LeBron is starting in the NBA seven to eight months older than Kobe was when he started.

Remember that Kobe averaged 28-30 points in the last three years to get that record. I don't see Lebron averaging close to that. I see him around 19-21 points and averaging 6-7 assists. If Ricky Davis, Dajaun Wagner, and D-Miles are there, then I see Bron averaging 15 points a game this year.
