This just in: I'm told Nikola Pekovic and Wolves have agreed to five-year deal worth $60 million

Sources with knowledge of deal say contract will also include up to $8 million in additional incentive-related bonuses for Pekovic

Initial indications are it's a straight-up deal for Pek and Wolves for five seasons with no options for either side

Damn. :man3: I know he's a good rebounder and all but $12 million a year? Seems overspent.

^ It's the going rate for big men these days and he's worth that price.

I just don't know if he's 5 years AND 12 million dollars a year... maybe 3-4 years for my tastes.

I'll be interested to see how this affects keeping Kevin Love in a year or two.

i think a team like minny doesn't want to gamble on unrestricted FA. so, they overpaid by one year (or 2 per, if you think five years was appropriate).

two recent opposing cautionary tales come to mind: the first is deandre Jordan, whom the clippers overpaid to some degree and appear to be regretting it. the second is Tyson chandler, who got overpaid, but the mavs failed to use that money to upgrade the roster, so that didn't work, either.

I think I agree with minny's choice here. they'll never have any buying power in FA (at least not for big name players), so keeping your own talent is sort of a must. teams like Miami, ny, and la can afford to let guys walk much more than Milwaukee and Minnesota can. hell, teams that pro athletes generally seem to like living in (dallas, Atlanta, until this year, Houston) haven't been able to just hoard space and buy talent.

Overpaid, but that's the going rate. He's a better value than turdish guys like Jordan, McGee, and Perkins.

I'd rather have Pekovic over McGee or D. Jordan, who get similar salaries
There are two teams that play in the Staples Center:
the LA Lakers and NBA Clippers.

Yeah bigs get the bucks these days. Just shows how thin quality big men are these days. Not to say that overspending on Pekovic is a bad move, but overspending on McGee and the likes just shows that point lol.

I think Pekovic should be paid higher than those guys. :man10:

It just goes to show you that the league is desperate for the next great big man.
