The Lakers are missing it's 2nd option (Bynum) and a KEY role player (Ariza)...

Disagree there. Pau is going to stay the second option....he's miles ahead of Drew when it comes to a polished post game.

You have to remember how Drew got most of his points....someone had to set the table for him. He was still working on getting his own shot. Pau doesn't need that.

It's Drew who's going to be the third option.

Pau will be a facilitator. The offense will go thru him more.
Bynum will be the #2 target behind Kobe on offense.


Pau can run the offense and provide some good polished post moves.
Bynum is a better finisher at the rim. He's more athletic with hands as good as Pau's. He will have MORE opps another threat in Pau.


And I don't have any doubt in my mind. I'm willing to bet anyone here that Bynum will STILL be the 2nd option. Name your terms.


And yes, I know that Bynum was SPOONFED most of his baskets. I also know that there was not one player that could stop him one-on-one.

We have Pau though and have used him to win 13 games.

I think Drew will be the second option next season, but this season, it has to be Pau.

Pau is a good polished post player but he's not a dominating post player. Pau's strength comes from his IQ and versatility. He's a guy that fits right in the triangle. He can score in more ways than Bynum but I would take Bynum's ability to bang down low over Pau's finesse. I think the Lakers will too.

Don't get me wrong. I LOVE the Pau addition. He makes the game easier. But Bynum makes this team SCARY...

If I'm wrong, I'll admit it.
If I'm right, give me the benefit of the doubt next time.

I like attacking the weaker big defender. Say we play Spurs. Tim on Pau, Oberto on Bynum. Go straight for Oberto. (obviously they gon put Thomas on em but ah just an example).

Also we can try to attack the star big man and get him in foul trouble.

actually GC I agree with you...Bynum should and will be the second option, or I like to better call it second best player. You win basketball games with inside-out basketball and once Bynum returns, he will get the space inside and Pau will have to move to the elbow more often...

also all those screen and roll plays work just as well with Bynum if not better. He has more power, he can put himself into a rebounding position and anchor the D...

there is no doubt he will be the second best player on this team. Since we have many options on this team, I really don't give a whole lot of damn about who is second or 3rd...they are just option 2A and 2B...If Odom is your 4th best player, you don't have to worry about your options...

You have to ask yourself, would anyone here trade Bynum straight up for Gasol? I know I wouldn't. People forget Bynum was averaging 13/10 in 28 minutes. And he was JUST coming into his own...

around christmas he was out-playing Dwight Howard

Let's see, instead of asking who is the second option, let's make it easy. Who will be the 2nd best player on our team.

Of course it's Bynum, because one edge that he has over Pau that is not debatable is his defense. I love Pau's game, his offense is superb, and he can create his shot better than Bynum, but Bynum's defense alone puts him over Pau.

I just can't wait to get the big kid back. We will be monstrous. Pau's passing skills are ridiculous. I cannot believe we have this guy right now. The game got so much easier for our guys. Lamar looks like he's got a new lease on life!! I've never seen him so animated. Not even on Miami. He's never looked happier. Gasol Bynum Kobe Fish on the floor at once? Insane. You might as well put me out there at the three and we'll still play .900 ball.

I agree Andrew was the 2nd option before he went down, but with the acquisition of Pau, when Andrew comes back, both AB and PG are forces deep in the paint.

Options or not, both of them are valuable to Kobe with the inside game...he can pick either one of them for the finish, as well as both of them are able to finish by themselves...with advantage to Pau.

I'd say, let's not go on whether Pau or Andrew are 2nd or 3rd options....IMO, they both are valuable first prized options to or other than Kobe to finish in the paint.
