Clublakers.com Championship Edition

Postby clublakers on Sat Jul 18, 2009 8:07 am

Over the next several hours we will be upgrading the site to the latest template.

This new template combines blogs and forums, so the homepage will be the new entry point into the forums. The latest Lakers blogs will be written and hosted on Sculu.com, and appear as excerpts every day in the right sidebar throughout the entire website.

I don't expect to lose any data during the conversion, however some things will certainly break. I'll report back here when I think everything is working properly so you can tell me what I missed.

Hold onto your butts...

So far so good... another hour of work to go, moving all of the avatars now.

NOTES ON IMAGES

Header Banner: I took a swipe at some initial header images, but I'm sure many here can do much better. Please coordinate with JSM and BDG for image development -- I'll get ya'll templates for anything you want to recreate.

Buttons/Icons: Buttons are generic and purple right now -- I can either move the old icons as-is and recode all of the images sizes, or new icons at that larger size can be developed. Let me know which direction you think we should take.

I'd liked the previous site, but this updated version is good, too.

New layout is interesting....it will take a while to get used to.

In the meantime...is there a way I can get the page to widen out and use my full widescreen real estate?

Right now, I'm using half my screen real estate.

Thanks.

Nicely done, CL crew! Also, I too, would appreciate it if you make some additions to cater to the ones with widescreen displays. :jam2:

I'm loving it so far.

I like the new colors and buttons better as well.

Lemme mull that one over -- we kept a wide format, but not an full-screen stretch because user studies reported that people don't like looooong lines of text when reading.

If not, can we toss some eye candy over there to entertain the rest of your screen? :man1:

If by eye candy you mean Megan Fox nude or Lakers memorabilia type stuff I'm down! :man13: :man13:

Honestly, I hate this new layout. the main problem I have is Left vs right balance. Most forums generally center or atleast push the actual content away from the left edge. right here, we are pushed right up against it with a lot blank space on the right.

Not a fan at all.

Not bad but it'll take some getting used to. Some suggestions...

- Bring back the gold/purple balls (not even necessarily the buttons)
- Forum should be centered imo like before ... feels weird reading all this stuff on the left hand side. This is probably my main issue.
- The top-right scoreboard has an annoying little horizontal scroll bar ... can you widen it so there's no need to scroll anymore?

I do like the new features on the right though (quick link to Twitter, blogs, photo gallery, local ads).

Slava laughed at the suggestion his skills might be affected by the down time. "Are you kidding?" he said. "Basketball is like ball. It's all a circle."

Please I am begging you cl to at least consider making the right Blog / Gallery bar optional. It's a pure waste of space on my screen. It literally annoys me (yeah I know I'm strange like that) and I really really really would prefer to be able to read the forums in full widescreen mode in spite of the user studies you referenced.
Vitti uttered three words that surely applies to how Bryant made two free throws on one leg, walked off the court on his own and processed his rehabilitation plan amid the pain, frustration and tears.

“That’s really cool.”

I guess this wil take some getting used too... so far not a fan but it was the same with the old layout too. Just wish the shade of color would change a little more with each new post.

The old layout highlighted threads with new posts in yellow. This one doesn't. I'd like to see the new posts highlighted.
