How to resurrect the Spanish Forum

Postby Mookie on Sun Mar 01, 2009 10:05 pm

It seems that the language filter has driven all of our hispanic friends away. How can we bring back that section of the forum?
Where can we find more hispanic posters, can we remove the filter, otherwise that section of the forum can be sent to the graveyard IMO.

I don't think people from Spain will come back, no matter how you try.

As far as hispanic people in the US or lakers fans from Latinoamerica, that's another story. Try to promote the spanish sub-forum in other websites.

I believe the language filter is a bad idea, in either forums. But what i know people leave for other reasons and someone did recently what people asked when the problems started. I don't know if that will be enough but at least he is trying now.

I myself find more interesting to know what mostly, us fans think about lakers and Pau. I rather speak about that in spanish in others forums i usually visit, and i think other spanish posters probably too.

If they can't have a good conversation without the use of profanity, then good riddance.

Actually ppl they blame me more so than the filter cause I tried to uphold the Spanish section just as a mod would in our regular English sections. They hate me with a passion for it, and being an american with Puertorican blood doesn't help me at all. Ppl from Spain are very different of course, they don't like being told what to do and they take censoring very seriously. One single thread page would have aprox. 20-30 swears easily. I tried to uphold our standards according to guidelines but to no avail. It also didn't help that I was practically the only one doing the referee'ing. I'm going to resign as mod of that section for the best, hopefully after my resignation some will start visiting again. I myslef was shocked about what happened and part of my continous absence from CL is because of it; I feel very responsible for not being able to sort things out there. One of my best friends is a Spaniard and he doesn't speak like that so I just couldn't get why they felt the need that they had to.

^ that's it.

This part is very accurate.

I thought they left because of the whole trash talking issue during the USA/Spain game.
