Moderators: you take yourself too seriously

This is a thread created in order to complain about the behavior of moderators.

Whereas some act properly, others take their fonction a bit too seriously. They find it amusing to lock other member's thread and it's almost like a competition to see who locks the fastest. Moderators, you should calm down a little bit, this is just a website.

I imagine that here at Club Lakers, we value freedom of expression, so I hope this tread won't get locked.

Does anyone agree with me?

I slightly agree just because I think their should be a little more leniency in what we talk about.

Wait so you just joined and you start a thread saying what the Mod's should do? Actually I suspect you are a member that just created another profile so you won't get banned or something like that for making this thread.

In any case wether you are new or old pretending to be new this thread doesn't belong in LAKERS DISCUSSION it belongs SITE RULES, SUGGESTIONS and COMMENTS forum. For future if you want to call someone out on a perceived "game of who can abuse power more" atleast have some facts to back the statement up. This thread is just the reason why we have to have Mod's policing each forum.

I'm sorry you feel that way. However, a general rule of thumb is that a member should do a quick skim of the first page of the forum they choose to create a new thread in. If a topic similar to yours is already being discussed, then there is no reason to create a new thread on that topic.

A quick skim, is all we ask.

As for this thread, I need to move it to the appropriate forum. So I hope you don't mind and welcome to the site. I'm sure in do time, you will understand and appreciate how we conduct "business" around here.

i donno, I kind of like the moderators lately...it seemed in the past I would see a lot of things lock up quickly, maybe even my own threads on occasion -that could of been because I was relatively new back then and didn't "skim" the forums as Vasashi mentioned, or it could just be the people moderating now...it's probably me. In anycase, I don't agree with the OP.

Some mods don't do anything to keep the environment of a site at a certain level. They let posters attack each other, one example is that a friend of mine was posting on a Laker message board and a poster attacked my friend as well as called out his wife right there for no reason, as well as attacked other posters with physical threats.

That guy should've been tossed, but wasn't. This forum is a lot better than most.

Wow you are completely off-base. I and the rest of the staff have more things to do then sit at the computer and compete with who is going to lock which tread or lock the most threads. Most of the time you are lucky to even see 2-3 mods on here at once unless a game is going on.

What some may call quick trigger we are more acting instead of reacting. Allowing multiple threads leads to clutter where you can't find anything and brings the quality of the site down trust me we had that probelm before in LD and it was a NIGHTMARE :bang:

I think the mods do a great job, and I'm not biased. I don't think any threads are just locked for the hell of it or locked too quickly, or based on a title alone. Certain threads have a certain tone, you can tell they're just to vent or negative or overreacting and those are the kinds that get locked because there's a thread for that kind of thing. But I notice that other threads that discuss legit concerns of the team in a more specific or well thought out manner stay open.

For example you have a thread like 'Is Odom disinterested' or 'What happened to Ariza's jumpshot' or a thread about Bynum's play and those stay open. They discuss specific points, about Odom, about Ariza's shot, about Bynum's defense or whatever. Then you have threads like 'Odom sucks', 'Kurt Rambis sucks', 'Our defense sucks', 'We suck the sky is falling' and so forth. Those type of threads I see getting locked because there aren't points, it's just stuff like 'Odom sucks, he's dumb and I hope we trade him'. Where does the discussion go from there, how is that a productive thread? There's a thread for venting like that, no need to have tons of those cluttering the board.

I'll end by saying I don't see anyone finding it amusing to lock threads, and nobody is competing to lock faster, that's just silly. I don't want to lock any threads, I doubt anybody WANTS to lock threads, just needs to be done. I also don't see any more locking going on here than normal so I don't get why we've had 2 of these type of threads in the past month or so.

Gotta agree with poster on this one Weezy.. you just locked a genuine citique I wrote on where the Lakers lack compared to the Celts and Cavs and you call it 'complaining,whining and moaning"? What makes you the expert on what an honest critique is compared to meaningless whining? Just because you don't agree with the opinions of another and you hate it when the Lakers get criticized, doesn't give you the right to condemn.. so now we can't even express honest critique for the better of the team?? Somethings not right with that man...

Alright wongy, I get it. I felt we have many threads discussing why the Cavs and Celtics are better than us, much discussion about our lack of passion and effort on defense in the defense thread and the whine moan complain thread. I also saw this thread discussing lack of urgency that got no replies that I felt was similar

but ok, I'll unlock your thread for people to discuss the Lakers passion.

First and foremost he is a mod. He became a mod by posting responsible posts and being a quality member. JSM and the rest of the staff would consider him an expert in telling if a thread is repetitive.

as for your thread here is your first post..

and that is PASSION. The reason that they are so successful is that each and every player comes out to play each and every night and more importantly, each minute of every game. I watched the first half of tonights game and turned it off.. DISGUSTING.. their attitudes suck like they don't care and even PJ doesn't seem to give a d***N about it either. Even if the Lakers do win tonight against a team that they should be destroying, it's still going to be less than impressive. It's constantly the same problem! We have too many players out there who are just out there to play for a check. The only ones with any type of steady heart are Kobe, Sasha and Trevor. The Celts are playing at a Championship pace and right now they really do deserve it. if the finals were to be played tomorrow, we would be gutted 4-0.... yeah, yeah, yeah, it's early in the season, we got a good record and all that junk, but it's just frustrating to see the same problems occurring time and time again and believe me, it's not going to be nearly enough when we have to face the likes of powerhouse teams.. look at what happened against the Pistons and they're not even at the level of the Celts and Cavs.. watch how the Celts and Cavs are winning.. the majority of them are blow outs... we should be doing the same with our talent but there's something that just isn't motivating this team to excel on a nightly basis.. i guess it has to fall on the Lakers chosen GURU??? a major light needs to be lit under their butts to make them realize that they can't just lollygag through the season and expect to win in the post season.

This statement sounds like complaining and whining to me not to mention it's repetitive. Not to mention there are threads this most likely could go in. I 100% agree that it should be locked.

^^I agree, people just got defensive when its their thread being locked. When it isn't your thread everyone is fine with WMC threads being locked, as soon as it's one of yours then thats's when the real WMC starts.

when will people realize that our goal, our objective is a clean forum and a clean forum only?

seriously, I can say for myself and other staff members that all we care about is the forum and the direction its headed. Everything else is completely irrelevant for us, thats just something members try to accuse us of having an exclusive desire for power.

I used to say that if people take care for themselves, mods would be unnecessary. But thats not true. Some people simply know more than others, some log in here on CL every day and know exactly whats going on and some log in once a week and cannot know as much as someone who is here every day...you cannot know what topics have been discussed recently, what kind of threads we have had recently and what kind of reactions the members had regarding certain topics.

so sometimes I understand why some members do not understand some decisions but hey, thats part of the business.

I have been here since the beginning, the mods are very fair. In my time, I think there was only one mod who I didn't agree with all the time in terms of his agendas, but he still did his job and was fair in his duties. I am a mod myself at club-dodgers, and I can tell you that there are times the duties of a mod are not easy. We haven't had too much trouble over there, but its hard to make a decision on things sometimes. I say keep up the good job guys!
