Before you click on this button:
please go through the following list:
-Is this topic directly related to today's Laker game? If the answer is yes, then the post should be made in the Gameday forum under the topic for that particular game. Is your thread one made out of frustration over a play or call during the game? If the answer is yes, then your post could either go in the gameday thread or the Official Whine, Moan, Complain Thread. Is the thread discussing the particular success/struggle that a player had in that game? If the answer is yes, then try the gameday thread or one of the several player threads floating around in the Lakers Discussion Forum. Such as: All things you love and hate about LO, Official Jordan Farmar Appreciation Thread, and Official DJ Mbenga Thread. I believe nearly all of the Lakers have one. If you don't see one on the first couple pages of Lakers Discussion, all it takes is a little searching. Just type in the player's name or a combination of the player's name and "thread" or "official," odds are you'll find something. Look for a thread with several pages and then bump that thread on up to the first page.
-Why was my topic discussing the game locked, but his wasn't? Look at the content. If your thread is about how Luke choked on the last play of the Cavs game, it will be locked. But if someone else posts a thread that discusses Luke's constant choking in clutch situations, such as this one: Walton's Clutch Moments," then odds are that it will probably stay opened. If that isn't the case, then there is also a chance that the staff has overlooked the thread or haven't gotten to moving it to the Graveyard yet. If you believe that to be the case, feel free to contact a staff member with a link to a certain thread and we will lock and move it, if needed.
- Is this signing a possibility? First, I would check out ESPN's Free Agent Listing. There you can see who's restricted, who can opt out, and who is free to walk. It's broken down by team and couldn't be any easier to read.
Next, check out Hoops Hype's contract page. This shows you what each player earned this past season. By skimming that, you'll be informed on what players are out of reach and what are possible targets. For instance, Gilbert Arenas earned a hair under $12 million, so signing him with the MLE is out of the question. Or that DeSagana Diop won't be available for the veteran minimum because he earned just over $2 million this year. Yes, some players will take pay cuts but these are typically elder players who have already had their big pay days (Grant Hill), so use some common sense to figure that one out.
-Is this trade a possibility? You can use Real GM trade checker or ESPN's trade machine. They aren't entirely accurate, but they should give you a ballpark. For example it will tell you that you can't trade Coby Karl for Jason Kidd because their contracts are continents apart. You can also reference Patrica's contract page and calculate the figures yourself.
-Why did my proposed trade/rumor/suggested signing thread get locked? Odds are there is already a thread about it. Take 20 seconds and scroll through pages one and two of Lakers Discussion, see if any of the thread titles could perhaps be related to the topic you wish to discuss. Want to do us all a favor and dig a little deeper, just to be sure you didn't overlook the thread? Then use the CL search function.
If that isn't the case, then it was probably so preposterous (Vlad for Bron) that it couldn't be taken seriously and was viewed as a joke or if you post those type of threads frequently for kicks then it could be viewed as spam and that is not permitted at Clublakers and could result in a warning. You can post all your unrealistic proposals in the Groundless Trade & free agent signing Idea Thread located in the Lakers Trade Rumors forum.
-I have a question that wasn't answered in this. I'll add to this tutorial if needed, but odds are Larry Coon can answer it for you. So, you might want to check out his salary cap FAQ thread: Click me. It has a table of content, if you can't find it that way, hit ctrl + f and type in what you're looking for.
So guys...let's strive for intelligent in-season discussion, proposals, suggestions, and ideas.
Now post away.
But before you do, also remember.....
BDG wrote:There's been an increasingly disturbing trend around the forums of people attacking groups of posters with particular opinions. In addition, there's a pattern of using particular terms that rest of the line of personal attacks to refer to these groups.
Things like . . .
Kobe nuthuggers
Bynum jockers
Odom fanboys
. . . will not be tolerated any more.
It's baiting and makes an argument personal. There are a number ways to conduct a conversation and stick to the issue instead of making classifications and generalizations about another poster or a group of members.
Let's keep away from the condescending remarks.
Instead, when referring to groups of fans, use terms such as these . . .
Kobe supporters
Bynum fans
That being said, keep in mind there are still ways to bait / attack other members aside from this rule. As always, please stay away from that.
Any questions, feel free to ask.
NOW, you can post away....
