Starting topics about how many posts you have (who cares?!)

Is it really necessary for some of you to make a new thread every time you reach a certain # of posts? I think most of us can read and see how many posts you have, so why do you have to broadcast it like it's a big deal? I've seen a TON of topics on here since I joined about reaching a certain # of posts and didn't think it was that big of a deal, but recently it's gotten a little ridiculous. For pete's sake, there's even a thread now from some guy bragging about having 200 posts! Who doesn't have at least 200 posts? I guess some people are just desperate for acceptance and/or attention. Since this forum is for suggestions, site rules, and comments, I figured this is where I could voice my opinion on those ridiculous "attention seeking" threads. I know I'm not the only one who thinks threads like that are pointless, so here's your chance to speak out one way or another on the issue.

I don't get it xxx. If you don't wanna read it, ignore them. Not a big deal for me.

PS - I only do it when i get 500 or 1,000. If it annoys you that bad I won't do it when I'm at a thousand.

I agree to an extent, I think the first K and so on are milestones, not every 100 or 50. Just my opinion. But when people post like 60 something posts a day when its like ok maybe every 2K.

Right I did it for 500 and I thought I'd do it for 1,000.

I was about to edit the post, but it's too late so I'll just follow up here. I don't care if you post like every 1000, or for some people who "live" on this site, 5000 or something, but not every 100, or 200, etc. That's just ridiculous.

It's just that between all the "Can I please be a mod" or "can I be a clublakers rep." and now these "Golly gee, I got more posts" threads, sometimes REAL topics get buried in the forum and it gets OLD filtering through all the unnecessary trash just to find something good to read.

I agree there.

The game forum actually filters a lot of those threads out of the Open Court Section though.

I agree, too many dead threads.

Have almost 46,000 posts at another site and have never patted myself on the back.

Regarding the topic, notice we don't have member ranks based on post count. Oh, we did once, but it became a battle to see who could get the most... which created a massive flood of garbage posts.

We reward quality, not quantity. Still, I don't have issue with self-recognition as long as they stay in the Open Court section.

Lets keep these threads only to k posts. 1k, 2k, 3k....so on and so forth.

I'm with xxx on this one, I don't really see the point of announcing how many posts you've made. I don't have a problem if someone else recognizes a member for their achievements, but I'm not a big fan of self-promotion. Besides, don't we post on this board to engage in conversation and not how many posts we can make? Speaking of number of posts, 46K posts is pretty impressive T I? What board is that on?

Me and JSM never created any thread congraduating outselves with every 100's of posts. Well I remember me and Reddy hit 1000 together, but that was different, we were the 1st 2 at CL to do that, and since then I personally have never created a thread about me reaching a certain amount of posts. U guys it's not necessary, and if u need a thread like that to get attention, then it just goes to show that ur quality of posts go unrecognized.
