Chad Ford: Marion has been dangled to the Lakers

Marion, who turns 31 at the end of the season and plays the same position as Beasley, doesn't appear to be a great fit.

He has been dangled to the Lakers and Jazz, and more recently the Heat tried to work out something with the Bulls that would have brought them Ben Gordon and others.

If Marion plays well early in the season, his value will go up for contending teams that need defense, rebounding and athleticism. But I'm not sure how much the Heat will actually be able to get for Marion. As talented as he is, I've yet to come across a GM who wants to give him huge dollars next year.

Shawn Marion is obviously a terrific fit for our team, but after this year, then what? We all know he left the Suns because he didn't want to be 3rd fiddle, and even if he is happy here, we don't hav enough money to resign him.

Like I've said:
we might as well keep Lamar. He knows the offense already, provides length and athleticism. Not to mention he wants to be here and has admitted to being open to taking less money.

Let Marion dig his own grave. No team wants him, with his bad attitude and demanding demeanor.

Marion would be a better fit, but it doesn't do us much good financially.

However, if we do get him and we rock, maybe Buss would be more likely to hand out some more money to keep him vs. Odom.

I wouldn't pay the luxury tax for Odom personally. Marion? Probably.

We'd have to think that one through long and hard. Marion would be a one year rental & he will seek a big contract LAL will not have money to pay afterwards.
If we could get someone else that could really contribute for a longer period of time (2-3 years), that would be great. If NOT, we could live with LO off the bench for sure...

I know Marion plays great d but i still believe Odom is a better player and would be against this trade

hmm i do like marion

but our team is pretty damn good already. it has identity. we got the starters and bench all set up already.. if we trade marion for odom, we would have to start marion.. which might alter the great chemistry of the starters.. and since odom came off the bench, would alter the chemistry of the bench as well.

i would say no just because he's going to ask for big $$ and he's already 30 and also because it would sort of shake up the teams chemistry and identity

Marion would be a good pick up if the Lakers could have him for their mid-level exception. Not too good though if it requires a large contract ... He has maybe a couple of years left then we will see a sharp decline.

if he would commit past this year for a legitimate amount i would take him. he is solid all around plus a good shooter.

i would do this trade if riles takes back walton also. i know it would require other players to get it done but to unload luke i would do that trade in a second with odom.

Marion > Odom right now

Odom just isn't aggresive enough.

Plus we could put Marion on Pierce :)

odom isn't aggresive enough? And Marion is, according to what? Marion does the same job Odom does and I can't say Marion does it better. This guy will jus create more of a clog on the team if Odom stays. I think Marion would be a great fit for the Mave he is the high flying player that Kidd is looking for.

Marion is not so good too anymore this years. I look at his numbers on espn and he is slower than other years by much.
