Herald-Zeitung: Horry interested in L.A.?

Postby Weezy on Sun Jul 27, 2008 4:37 pm

Like trodgers said, he'd have to audition. I for one agree that he's done, but he IS a big, he does bring that no nonsense attitude we need, he can still hit clutch shots I believe, and he is a vet that knows what winning takes. If we had him along with Kobe and Fish we'd have a lot of the veteran attitude back on our team. He'd be a good bench and team guy is what I mean, but how he performs on the floor is a different story. For the minimum I might just sign him.

I'd love Horry to come back to the Lakers. Hes a perfect back-up PF and he knows the triangle better than 75% of our team. He was not a good fit in San Antonio (although he was key in many championships) because of the attention to defense.

Here, he would not have to exert that much energy on the defensive end based on our team's orientation. He suffered last year because he had a nagging knee injury throughout the season. I still think he can be very useful.

I'd take Kwame over Horry, too, but I wouldn't be opposed to either.

I'd be up for it, but last I had heard, a few years ago, he was only interested in playing for TX teams because of his family/daughter.

I'd be up for it, but from a productivity perspective, I'd rather have Kwame.

In terms of free agent PF or centers, who else is available to sign anyways? I thought Kupchak was looking to sign another front line player.

I'd want him only if we couldn't get Kwame, Skinner, Elson, Ratliff or Mutombo (maybe a few others as well).

Man I would love if Horry came back. He has always been one of my favorite players in the NBA even when he was on the Rockets. IMO, he is still good enough to play 10 mins/game. Rest him for the majority of the season and then give him a little more PT come playoff time. Do it mitch!

The Suns are yesterday's news. I doubt the Lakers have to worry about them. In fact, I hope the Lakers meet the Suns in the playoffs... the Suns will be swept.

What can Horry tangibly provide us at this stage of his career?

Count me out.

Locker-room presence, 5-10 good minutes of smart defense taking charges..etc.

I hope Mitch doesn't sign him to be our "backup big" that we're looking for.

Horry Back Rob?

Postby gcclaker on Sun Jul 27, 2008 5:40 pm

Horry is done... He is now injury prone and the Lakers need a big body to back up both Bynum and Gasol respectively. At this point in his career, Horry has too much mileage and the squad can't afford to have someone who will only contribute sporadically. A stable, consistent backup is needed throughout the season and the playoffs.

We need a big,not saying he's that back up big we're looking for,but I'd much rather have his veteran experience as a 15th man than Coby Carl.Maybe he can still muster one more season for us.

I have his Laker Jersey, but Jordan's wearing the number now.....

I am always willing to have a quality vet close out his career at "home".

Well, with Ronny gone, we need a backup PF. If we can't get anybody better then I can't see why not. Our initial offer to Ronny was 2 million dollars. Not too many good backup 4's are available for that much right now.

If we can sign him for the BAE or Vet Min, then go ahead. He's not going to play many minutes anyway. At least he's somebody who understands the triangle and how to play in the system. That way we don't have another new recruit trying to learn it.

If he wants to play for the vet min., then I am all for it, but he can't be are main backup. He would in essence be in a player/coach role for the team.

he would be beter than mbenga and coby carl at rotting in the bench. he can be useful for the intangibles with experience while sitting and doing nothing but playing 3 min a game at best
