Javaris Crittenton coming back...per AM 570??!!!

Postby LAKEROC on Thu May 29, 2008 3:51 pm

I heard a rumor today on the Loose Cannons that suggested that the Lakers might re-aquire Javaris Crittenton this offseason, to complement their backcourt. Since Crittenton is under contract the Lakers would need to trade young talent and expiring contracts for this to happen. The cannons talked for about 15 minutes about this trade and said it was a , "real possibility".
The deal that Steve Hartman had proposed was the following:

To Grizzlies:
G-Coby Karl(expiring contract)
C-Chris Mihm(expiring contract)
G/F- Sun Yue(draft rights)
1st round draft pick

To Lakers:
Javaris Crittenton

Seeing that Crittenton and Bynum were best friends, and seeing how well they played off one another when they were on the court, I think this is an excellent deal. The Grizzlies get Coby Karl who will fill in for Juan Carlos Navarros spot. He also has an expiring contract. They need height and will get backup center Chris Mihm, along with his expiring contract). The also add 6-9 point guard Sun Yue, who after this Summer's Olympics could see his stock rise significantly. Finally the Grizzlies get another first round pick out of the deal to add more youth and cutting their payroll.

If you were Mitch would you pull the trigger on this?

The Lakers have no first round pick to trade for him. They traded this year's pick and the 2010 and the NBA doesn't allow you to trade first round picks back to back years unless you own someone else's which Lakers don't. They made a mistake drafting him, I don't know why they would want him back. The salaries don't even come close to matching either.

we cant trade mihm cause his contract is expiering this year and he gets 2.5 where crittenton only gets like 1 mil but the salaries would work because memphis are under the cap

No mistake made. It got them Gasol and he is a good athletic, talented player. It was a good pick and I would love to have him back, of course if Chris Wallace is willing to shed more salary.

I would say make this deal if you can. It gives us a young talented and tall(6-4) point guard back in the mix, but also gives Memphis what they want....expiring contracts, young players and another 1st round draft pick courtesy of yours truly :man12:

We would then need just need to find a backup-center for Bynum. I would be very happy to get Kwame Brown back for the Bi-Level Exception(1.8 million)...nothing more!!!

That would basically mean we got Pau Gasol for:

1. Marc Gasol
2. Sun Yue
3. 3 first round draft picks
4. Chris Mihm
5. Coby Karl

i dont want to do this trade for several reasons. One, for the reason above. Second, i dont even think the salaries work out and Mihm has the bird exception in his contract, so hes essentially untradable until his contract ends this upcoming offseason.[/quote]

I think the exception does not work on last year of the contract

I doubt it.
I would love to have that deal come through though. Critt is really talented, and the young backcourt of Farmar, Crittenton, and Sasha would be great.

Why so Crittenton could once again pout because he is behind Farmar and Fisher? They need to add a PG, but it doesn't need to be a youngster. It needs to be Royal Ivey, Jannero Pargo or Tyrone Lue or someone of that nature to play defense. Quinton Ross isn't a PG but would be better fit than Crittenton. I would draft Carl Landry over Crittenton in a heartbeat.

if that pick was a 2nd round, I could believe it, I don't think we can give Memphis another pick and that would be too much.

who cares? We got more than enough young talent to make up for that. Plus all those first round picks are gonna be late 1st round as well. This isn't like an NFL draft, the NBA draft more often than not once you go past 15-20.

to clear some logjam at SF, I would trade Walton for Critt straight up. Ariza can come off the bench like Walton and provide spark. Granted we lose some basketball IQ but this is for cap reasons.

I like Critt and would love to have him back, but he wouldn't get any playing time as a 3rd string PG and it would stunt his development.

Unless it were part of a larger deal that involved Odom, Miller and pieces, I don't see it happening.

If Memphis did such a deal it basically confirms what most people know: collusion.
