Jose Calderon to Los Angeles?

Jose Calderon to Los Angeles?

Postby sniperdog614 on Fri May 16, 2008 4:48 pm

There is no market for T.J. Ford, while teams privately covet Jose Calderon, who would make both a playing and cultural fit in markets such as Miami and Los Angeles. Not that the Raptors needed further evidence of the growing divide at the point, but quotes attributed to Calderon highlight a rift with Ford. "I would like to start and that's the most important thing,'' Calderon is quoted as saying in yesterday's edition of the Spanish daily sports newspaper El Mundo Deportivo, a sentiment he first shared with visitors to his website. But now comes the kicker. Continued Calderon in the article: "I've been two years with him but I don't know if I could be another year because things would have to change." Barring a complete personality makeover by Ford, which doesn't seem likely, nothing can change in Raptorland. That is why a change in scenery for Calderon is best for all parties concerned.

Well if there really is a rift and Calderon is available, do you think we should pursue?

If the Lakers added Calderon, they would have to be baned from the league. Calderon is actually what the Lakers need. A team oriented, great defender, and great shooter, not to mention a very close friend of Pau Gasol's. The problem is, Calderon is a restricted free agent in Toronto, and there is no way they are letting him go.
Again, he has good height(6-3), is a great defender, and would work beautifully in the backcourt with some of our players, however he's restricted and there is no way to bring him here without trading one of our big 4 (Odom, Bynum, Gasol, Bryant).

However, if he were restricted, and due to his close relationship with Pau, I do think he would accept FULL MID-LEVEL EXCEPTION to play here, IF he were Unrestricted,

I would scream like a little girl at a Jonas Brothers concert if it ever did happen though

The real question is that are the Raptors dumb enough to do a sign & trade with us because not everyone is the Grizzles you know.

He would be a good player in the Lakers triangle, but the Raptors would never let him go

vlad would be an ideal fit for toronto, fits well with there style of play and can play some time at the 4 also can can help to give bosh a little rest, while farmar is a good player who can fit in just about any where.

Trade Odom for Calderon

Postby bagnuc on Mon May 26, 2008 10:12 am

I think Lakers would be a better team with the following starting line-up:

Calderon, Kobe, Ariza, Gasol, Bynum

Bynum will more than make up for odom when he returns next year because he can make up for the lost rebounds, blocked shots, and scoring. I definitely think that Toronto will agree to let Calderon go for Odom. I think although Odom, Bynum, Gasol sounds really good on paper there is too much duplication and I think having all three of them starting will make Lakers actually less effective then if just any two of them were on the court at the same time.

if somehow the lakers managed to get calderon, I would still put Fisher as the starter. His leadership and presence on the court helps the team out in many different ways.

Then, Calderon wouldn't come to Lakers :mhihi:
He told "I want to be a starter and I want to be in a winner project"

But I think he would consider coming to LA as it is a ring contender, Toronto is not.
We will see...

Exactly.

You rob some teams, some teams rob YOU. I reckon the Raptors will want a whole lot more than what people are expecting for Jose Calderon. He would be a great player for the Lakers, but to get him we would have to give up Odom and more (this is considering SALARY).

If he were unrestricted, there is a small possibility you get get him here(Lakers) for the FULL Mid-Level. exception, due to his friendship with Pau Gasol...IF he were Unrestricted, which he isn't, and so ends the discussion for Calderon to the Lakers.

They don`t deserve Calderon in Toronto, in the raptors forums they seem to like Ford more, and they say Calderon is as any PG in the league. I wish he could come here, but I dont think he will stay in Toronto.
