Kobe to Detroit: A trade that didn't happen

Kobe to Detroit: A trade that didn't happen

Postby Piston Boris on Wed Apr 08, 2009 9:48 pm

My ticket sales rep told me that several teams made offers to Dumars before this year's trade deadline.

One doozy was Kobe Bryant and filler players to Detroit for the Pistons' best 4-5 young players.

Needless to say, Dumars declined.

Kobe is very good, but he isn't worth a team. Some proposed deals are amazingly unbelievable.

I take what he said with a grain of salt.

If true, it's an interesting factoid like former Piston GM Jack McCloskey offering the entire 1980 Piston team to LA in exchange for Magic.

I'm looking forward to seeing what happens in the playoffs and the '09 offseason.

You're a riot.

Cleveland lacks an inside offense, Boston is thin and aging as people watch, and Orlando doesn't have enough playground basketball to go toe to toe with Detroit. Rumors of the Pistons' demise are exaggerated.

Romping through a West that has an injury riddled San Antonio, an overachieving Denver team, and young guns like Portland and Utah won't necessarily prep the Lakers for a battle-hardened Eastern Conference opponent like in the '08 Finals.

Your talk is very mighty. But if I were you I would quiet down that roar of yours, worry about getting in the playoffs before you worry about the Lakers "weak" conference. This time next week you may be looking up at the 'Cats.

If you review my posts in other threads, you'll see I'm quite friendly, 402. I don't hate the Lakers, nor any other team since this is sports and not life and death.

A review of this string shows I didn't start talking trash.

What fan would be a good fan to abandon his team when it's going through a roller coaster transition year?

Larry Brown is doing a fine job with the Bobcats. I can see them winning 40 games next year. Their remaining schedule has more road games than Detroit's, though, and the Pistons are finding their groove now that Iverson is out of the equation.

I don't make predictions, but wait and see how things develop. I look forward to an entertaining playoffs in both East and West and I wish the Lakers good luck in the playoffs.

No part of my post said you weren't a fan. Not once did I say you hated other teams. So I don't see where you are getting that from.

A little sensitive maybe?

Yeah, why would LA wanna compete for a title the next 4-5 years when they could rebuild!?

Actually, 402, I wondered if you were a bit sensitive about my "roar."

You did try to take some shots at the Pistons when I was looking to start a friendly chat.

I'm always up for a serious basketball talk, and I thought I would state for the record that I'm not interested in trolling and getting into text smackdowns about Pistons vs Lakers.

I've had good chats with Pacer, Trailblazer, Cavalier, Spurs, and Celtic fans. This board seems to have a lot of serious fans, so I thought I'd try it out.

I'll see you around.

Good question.

I went wide-eyed.

The Pistons have a number of young players other GMs have been querying about, but Dumars won't cough them up without equivalent value that'd improve the team in the bargain.

Sorry, but whoever told you that was straight up lying to you.

Kobe >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> everybody on the pistons combined, and not only that, this trade does not make any sense at all for either team.

I thought this was the 'sourced' rumors section. Your sales rep told you this. I don't see how there is any credibility in it. Not saying he didn't tell you this, but where is the source?
