In the words of Scottie Pippen: "Can't have midgets in the backcourt!"

I don't understand the fascination with Nate. He's not the prototypical PG for the triangle.

I don't know what to make of these reports because I can't imagine why we'd want Nate. He's talented offensively, but that's it, he's not gonna guard anyone, he's gonna have to learn the system, he's 5 foot 9, I just don't get it.

Actually Nate is a pretty good defender, even tho he is only 5'9.

He is a better defender than both Farmar and Fisher. Thats for certain.

Please God, I hope this isn't true... even Knicks fans think he sucks.
In the real world, the day Steph awoke at 9 a.m. to begin his Ustream show, Kobe Bryant probably awoke at the same time, even if it was 6 a.m. in California, and lifted weights.

If Mitch and Phil like him, that's good enough for me. I know we want a defensive stopper at PG but if that's not happening, why not replace Farmar (our scoring PG who doesn't play any defense) for a better scoring PG? And Nate is actually a pretty decent defender for his size. His defensive weaknesses don't come from a lack of effort like some of our other point guards.

Initially, I totally agreed with this. I was like, Nate? No defense. Haven't we been looking for a defensive pg for years.

But....Im beginning to like the idea of Nate. Here's why.

We got Artest. I think having Kobe, Artest, and using Shannon in defensive needs in critical points in the game will be enough.
One glaring problem we had, was when kobe would sit on the bench. Our offense went so stagnant. And we would only score when Gasol got a good dose of touches when kobe was out. But the offense became so predictable. And they would double Gasol and deny entry, and it would be up to sasha, farmar, luke, or odom to create their own shot. And we all know, that they aren't really good at that.

I think Nate would totally fix that problem. He is streaky, but that guy can create his own shot, which is amazing given his size. Im on board with this now. I was hesitant, but now with Artest, and hoping for a healthy bynum, our defense will be ok. I think fixing points off the bench is the bigger issue.

It would really improve those 15 point leads being reduced to 5 point leads by the time kobe came back in.....
However,,,Barbosa >>>Nate for this particular problem to be addressed. We should try to get him. Our team would be perfect. :man12:

Nate is a shoot first, shoot second type of guy...

this team is FULL OF shoot first players...makes absolutely NO sense to me to get a midget who keeps firing like there is no tomorrow everytime he is on the floor.

I'd rather trade Farmar to get Crittenton back. At least Crittenton is 6'3/6'4 and athletic so he's got a better chance of guarding Williams or Billups in addition to the penetration skills that we lose by getting rid of Farmar. Doubt Washington wants to do it though. Critter was a good backup for them last year.

Nate , like Artest is a guy that has proven he can "get his own shot" and we could really use that off the bench
to go along with Odom whom we know is unselfish to a fault even tho he is another guy who can get his own shot

How about focusing on a guard that can actually play defense. Would be nice to be able to somewhat contain a PG like D-Will.

HE IS TOO NEEDY FOR SCORING, WE NEED A LOCK DOWN PG, WHO CAN DRILL OPEN SHOT AND DOSENT NEED THE BALL, FIGURE

KOBE 25 PPG
ARTEST 17 PPG
GASOL 17 PPG
ODOM 12 PPG
BYNUM 12 PPG

THATS 83 POINTS PER GAME THAT LEAVES ROUGHLY 25 POINTS FOR ALL OF THE OTHER PLAYERS, FISHER IS PROB ATLEAST 10 PPG SO THAT IS JUST 15 POINTS FROM ALL OTHER PLAYERS COMBINED

NOT ENOUGH BALLS

If we kept Ariza instead of signing Artest I would say this isn't a bad idea. But Artest looks for his own offense alot more than Ariza, we do not need anymore scorers. We need a defender/passer at the point guard spot who atleast is a threat to hit an open 3. Of the Knicks guards, I would much rather take Duhon.

I really hope not. You really don't want a team that's so OFFENSE oriented that they don't know what to do when it comes to defense. Having TOO many offensive option is not always a good thing. A team needs to have couple stars and more role players who know what they're suppose to do to get the job done.

With all these offensive options it'll most likely end up being the Shaq/Malone/Kobe/Payton team of yester years and we all know the outcome of that fiasco... (I never seen Malone suck so bad until that season.)

Not sure if some of you guys are putting this in its proper perspective. Nate would not be the starter. He'd be the change of pace pg for our bench mob with Odom, Sasha and Luke. I know he can't play defense. Neither can Farmar. At least Nate can score consistently. Imagine a running lineup of Odom, Walton, Sasha, Brown and Nate as our bench mob. Not bad at all.

Thank you. We can all agree that Farmar has been mediocre at best on defense this past year. Jordan chucks up a lot of shots and tries to be a scoring point guard but most of the time, he doesn't score much. So if we're not going to get a defensive point guard (and there aren't many on the market), why not make an improvement by getting a better scoring point guard.

And actually, scoring is something we need. Other than Lamar, last season there was nobody who could create their own shot. Our bench struggled offensively last year and Nate could really help.

I'd like to see us get Robinson or Felton, but after re-signing Lamar, we just aren't going to have the money to sign another player to a $5+m contract until Fisher and Morrison are off the books next summer.
