LeBron has the Lakers in mind

Postby doodleee on Wed Oct 29, 2008 3:16 am

Donnie Walsh, the Knicks GM, had heard for years about Wesley’s influence, but never met him. The two didn’t talk about James, sources say, but it was a chance for the Knicks president to be around one of the most influential people in James’ decision-making process. The Knicks are working hard to get under the salary cap in 2010.

With the Knicks, there are two teams a source familiar with James’ thinking says intrigue him: The Los Angeles Lakers and Dallas Mavericks.

who wouldnt? but too bad it wont happen. kobe + gasol + bynum + extensions for farmar, etc is just too much.i mean unless we can get rid of walton, vlads contract and have kobe opt out and sign for less, this is pretty farfetched

If Lebron takes a paycut and goes to LA to be one of Kobe's sidekick and heir apparent, we might be champs for the next 12 years..a real dynasty..

Never gonna happen, but a man can always dream. LeBron's obviously the next in line for the title of "NBA's best player" so it would be awesome if Kobe got to mentor him a little bit (though LeBron is and will continue be great without Kobe's mentoring).

No it's not going to happen. I thought about the other day when it was brought up elsewhere and there's simply way too many things that would have to happen for this to even be considered a possibility. Including : Kobe's money, Bynum's money, Bench money, Lebron's legacy ( he'll always be under Kobe's shadow if this were to happen, and guys like Lebron are picky about their pride).

If it happens God loves the Lakers more than we could imagine, but if won't, so don't look too far into it unless Lebron, Kobe, and Andrew all come out and say, " I want to play for the Lakers, and I'll take a massive pay cut."

Cmon people. These writers want readers. Throwing the Lakers into any article increases that webpages hit total two fold. Adrian Wojnarowski is no different than any other writer. We get Lebron if we give up Bynum and Gasol. I don't see any other way.

Only way Lebron can become a Laker is if the Lakers let Kobe AND Odom go for nothing next year, and don't sign anyone else to replace them.

There is almost zero chance that the Cavs would even think of sign and trading Lebron and there is close to zero chance the Lakers break up a team that has all the talent to win or compete for the next 5 championships just for a small chance that Lebron may sign here in 2010.

Forget Lebron. Not happening.

No way the Lakers can get LeBron off the FA market. Unless the Cavs want to clear up cap space and know LeBron wont be staying there. Kobe has a no-trade clause and he wouldnt want to go to Cleveland.

In that case, they would want Odom (cap relief), Farmar and Bynum. They may even want to throw away Ben Wallace's contract aswell.

Wallace and LeBron: For Odom, Bynum, Farmar and possibily even Gasol as a added player

Lakers
C - Mihm
PF - Vlad
SF- LeBron
SG- KObe
PG - Fisher

IMO, we would be getting ripped off. Unless they let use keep Gasol

Why would the CAVS do this trade?
- Odom would be good trade bait for one. He has a expiring contract aswell
- Bynum is young and they may see more potential in him becoming a superstar
- Farmar, they already have 2 PGs. Farmar would be there for trade bait
- Gasol. Maybe so they could trade him? Or match the cap? Or maybe they wouldnt want him if Bynum improves throughout the season and takes a 11mil extension

In that case
C - Gasol
PF - Vlad
SF - LeBron
SG - Kobe
PG - Fisher
Andrew Bynum, future leader of the Lakers

Look the only way it works is if he takes on the same contract he just had ( pay cut) Kobe takes a large cut, and Andrew signs for much, much less than the max deal he's pushing for. I obviously wouldn't pass on Lebron in 2010, but it just isn't going to happen.

Not impossible. Just improbable. Any acquisition would have to be through a sign and trade.

Since Lebron is an unrestricted free agent, the CAVS must have an incentive to help us out. Purely trading expiring doesn't work because they can just let Lebron walk instead and still get the same cap relief. Thus we'd have to give them a serviceable last year player + young talents + picks.

#1) Serviceable last year - The only one that fits that criteria is Odom. Sign him to a 2 year extension @ $10 a year, hence he would be a last year in 2010.

#2) Young talents - Bynum and Farmar would probably have to be included. If Bynum gets an extension around $10 mil and continues to be good, he can replace Odom in criteria #1. Farmar is due for a contract as well, keep that in mind.

#3) This is going to have to be some future future picks as we've lost some upcoming picks, namely in the Gasol trade. If we can trade some players away for pure draft picks, that would help. i.e. Luke or Ariza but that's not happening.

Mitch would have to really play his hand correctly a year ahead at the CHANCE that Lebron would even consider the Lakers. He's gonna have to bust some Jerry West maneuvers (like when he got Shaq to sign) and take some gambles.

Does anyone know how long must a player be signed for in order for the team to have their bird rights and resign them for whatever regardless if the team is over the cap? I know there has to be a loophole to prevent teams who are over the cap to sign players like Lebron for MLE and then giving them a huge contract afterwards.

Say Kobe bolts....

Do the Laker big wigs persue LBJ in 2010 to the death??

I dont even want to think that far ahead to be honest. This season is set to be something spectacular.
