If Lamar has the right to talk to other teams The Lakers have the right to talk to other players. Listen I want Odom back just as much as anyone, but this is a business, and one player, if it aint Kobe is gonna make or break this team. Does he help? Heck yeah, but is him leaving gonna hurt much? Man you guys ... Joe Smith is s-o-l-i-d. He was a good pickup for the Cavs and did well against the frontline of Detroit in the playoffs. He would spell Bynum and bring some rebounding and defense. Although Smith is old he's still better than Dacos that's for sure.

Against Detroit in the playoffs:

10.8 pts, 50% FG, 5.5RPG. Not bad for an old guy.

Sign Smith for the vet and trade Odom for Gerald Wallace - which Charlotte would do in a second and Odom would go anywhere if the $$$ is right.

Wallace becomes your 6th man and you can play him and Artest together - both can play the 4 against certain teams. You got a dynamic 6th man and better depth on the frontline.

we already got 2 dumb players on our team (sasha bynum) now we are trying to get gooden... y stop there lets also sign Michael Ruffin and Stephon marbury...i here medvedenko is trying to get back in the nba lets get him also!

and maybe mark madsen would be a solid pickup as well....

Neither is Joe Smith really. If Andrew can stay healthy, Smith really only would need to play maybe 12-15 minutes a game. He's a solid rebounder, he's in good shape. There's worse.

He's not. Of course, Gooden is not an ideal option, but if LO walks, there are no ideal options. In that case, if Gooden is willing to come for Vet Min money I would sign him so fast. He is a productive bench #4. It's almost impossible to get that level of production that cheap.

gooden is one of those player who has occasional good spurts and will follow it up with a string of terrible spurts ....i know this ive actually followed gooden for quite a while cuz i wasa fan of his when he played in ORL....but that was then and there must be a reason why no team wants him...hes been bouncing around from team to team.....this would be a nitemare......SAY NO TO GOODEN!!

He might not be bad. His stats remind me of another PF: Horace Grant. Although Horace probably had more of a b-ball IQ. If Gooden signed for the vet min that would be a great pickup!

yes dont get me wrong id love to have another big man on my team but i dont want him as odoms replacement...we gotta do whatever it take to get him back odom is so versatile he can play all 5 positions and he causes fits to the defense cus of his size.

gradymac, it wouldn't be a nightmare if he was signed here short term for cheap (which is likely what would happen with Smith/Gooden).

You and I obviously have different opinions of Gooden, but if LO talks fail (and I really hope they don't), getting Gooden is a low-risk move. Worst case scenario is Gooden rides the bench and we go into the season with the same team we would have had if LO walks.

He wouldn't be a replacement for Odom, just a big body that can defend, rebound and absorb some of Odom's minutes. If Bynum can return to the form he was in during the early stages of last season, it will solve a lot of problems whether Odom is here or not.
