Bring on the players who are hungry for a championship rather than the money, ala Shannon Brown and Ron Artest.

My only point is that you aren't going to find guys as good as they are at their positions. Mitch is looking into Gooden and Smith now because things are rocky with LO. There are an extremely high number of teams that would love to have two guys like Powell and Mbenga who come in and rebound and defend, maybe provide a couple jumpers or something.

Smith, Gooden, etc etc. would be signed for the same purpose, but since they wouldn't be playing much anyway them being there doesn't make much of a difference. If Lamar leaves, I agree I think the bench needs another big as soon as possible. But with Lamar and a healthy front court, this team really doesn't need another big.

If Smith and/ or Gooden could be had for the exact same cost as Powell and Mbenga I say go for it. Although then chemistry can become an issue as well.

The vet minimum is about the same or even less than Powell and Mbenga are making. It would be just a little more for Smith but not much more.

Since both Gooden and Smith are far better players than Powell and Mbenga, who will each make 959,111 then yes they would be making roughly the same as them so bring them in. Remember the league pays part of the money on vet minimums. Gooden is much better player than either of those guys.
Then you ask is it worth it? For just a little more, you can get an older player that isn't a guaranteed mesh with the team and won't be seeing a whole lot of playing time anyway.

^ Gooden isn't going to do much better in Powell or DJ's minutes. That's the point. No one is. Powell is a fairly consistent jump shooter and DJ is actually a pretty damn good defensive player (for a 12th man). In their minutes, neither Gooden nor Smith is going to make the team that much better. Why waste the time and energy when there are more important things to worry about?

Mbenga is wack, and so is Josh Powell, when will we upgrade these two clowns, they are nothing but bench warmers who made no impact whatsoever, lord forbid someone gets hurt and they have to fill in, we'd be in trouble.

If we don't re-sign LO here's what we need to do. One of us CL members will sacrifice ourselves by going out and attacking any combination of Ammo, Luke, or Sasha. All we have to do is hurt them enough that they can't play for the rest of the season and than the NBA will grant the Lakers an injury exception so we'll be able to sign a better player than Smith or Gooden! :man9:

Call me crazy but I think we should look at signing Tinsley. If he's healthy, he'd be an improvement over Farmar.

I don't know much about his defense but offensively, he's horrible. He hasn't played in a couple of years either and is known to have problems off the court. He is a very good distributor though so if he'd be willing to sign for the minimum I'd try it out and than cut him if there are any problems.

I was not aware that Wilcox was available. He would have been my choice over Smith or Gooden. Unfortunately, he's reached an agreement with Detroit.
Nor can the Lakers get blamed for always making the right decisions over decades. At some point its not just luck or "gamble", its superior management and superior ownership.

We're considering signing Shelden Williams in hopes he can convince Candace Parker to make the jump to the NBA and sign with us.

Gooden to Dallas via his twitter. If we cant do a sign and trade with LO or re sign him next best option IMO is Hakim Warrick

You can't have 15 players that all have 'impact'. Powell is more than adequate is a 2nd/3rd string PF. There are NO teams in the NBA that have a Lamar Odom caliber PF off the bench.

Things Mitch needas to consider: Bynum can and will get hurt; Gasol will play again during the winter, I hope he does not break down but it could happen; Who will step up? Warrick? douby it. Gooden would have been a good play but know we should be gunnin for Odom....

Our options if we lose LO:

Hakim Warrick- Doubt he would take vet minimum, don't see how we get him.
Joe Smith- Supposably prefers to play on the east coast.
Shelden Williams- Pretty much a bust. He is a banger that can rebound. Seems like our option.
Stromile Swift- A highlight dunker/shot blocker. Has lost explosiveness.
Leon Powe- If healthy he would be the best option, won't be ready to play until mid-season.
Ike Diogu- Not sure what happened to him. Undersized but he could score in the post. I like him over Shelden.
Brian Skinner- no.
Juwan Howard- double no.

The MLE was used on Ron Artest.
The LLE was used on Shannon Brown since we didn't own his bird rights.

A sign and trade of Warrick for Farmar could actually work, especially since the Grizzlies are in need of a backup point guard.
