Memphis needs guards. GIve them Jordan, Sun and second round pick in 2010 back for Hakim. If they would trade Gasol for trash they would probably do that trade.

Lakers should look for a capable backup PF and Drew is going to Dallas. So Shelden Williams might be the best one available among free agents, and that's not good.

I'm sure Mitch will do something to find one. Bynum has to play a full season this year, no matter what. He's never done it, and needs to hold up for the entire year. You can count on injuries and depth is part of LA's strength. Losing Ariza & Odom and getting only Artest back makes us a less deeper team.

We have no chance at Gooden to begin with, and Shelden Williams was more realistic anyways.

I would go after Bobby Jackson to replace Farmar. Then trade Farmar and Morrison for a backup big.

Selling Warrick on a one year deal might be possible. Raise your stock in LA and wait for 2010 offers when teams don't land the fish they want. Ariza went from bust label to grabbed the MLE on a title winning team.

If Diaw were a free agent right now, would you offer him that $27 millon/3 years deal that we offered Odom? Because that's what Diaw is set to make. I don't think he's close to as good as Odom an definitely not worth that kind of money. Don't get me wrong, he's a good player but that's too much for him.

It's different when you're trading players for that salary. Adding the 9 million that Odom would get to our team puts us in hell, TRADING Morrison and salary (Farmar) for an equal salary keeps us right where we are now.

Diaw isn't Odom, but he's not a player you should underestimate.

lakers brass should be all over warrick right now trying to convince him to a deal for minimum/s&t as insurance.

Warrick would be a great addition IF Odom departs. He's an athletic, agile, strong 4 that would give the bench a boost. If not, the savvy Smith will do.

smith isn't a bad 1 - 2 year rental with some dedication to really win a ring. i think it would be a good idea to have motivated players on the squad as well.

I doubt the Lakers could get one, let alone both.

Smith and Warrick are worth a good deal more than the vet's minimum. Smith might go for it if he wants a ring, but he had a chance last season and didn't take it so why would he now?
