J. O'Neal for Lamar ?

J. O'Neal for Lamar ?

Postby KB24=MVP3 on Sat Jan 17, 2009 12:04 pm

Quote:
A reliable source also told me that Lakers forward Lamar Odom (expiring this season) is another possibility in an O'Neal deal. The Lakers' Andrew Bynum has not played up to expectations this season (grabbed five rebounds combined in two recent games, isn't controlling the boards like he should) and Pau Gasol is an extremely soft big.

Odom and filler to make the salaries match (Mihm and a minimum contract?) would make some sense for both sides.
L.A. could split its 96 frontcourt minutes between three effective bigs and overpower Western opponents (with Kobe waiting in the wings to decide any game).

Odom would keep the Raptors competitive and give them a multi-talented ball-handler who can create his own shot and shots for others. The team would have the cap space to go after a couple of solid free agents this off-season, when Odom, Anthony Parker, Jorge Garbojosa and Joey Graham come off the cap.

Toronto fans are PUMPED about this.

Hey maybe this time BC won't be stupid as Bird and Walsh was for their idiotic Odom and Bynum demands.

PS: I would think this would be the last place for the other teams want to see JO in because of his 2010 expiring.

Forgot to add I still don't think Lakers would make that of a major move.

OP, you forgot quote one additional line:
(Just wanted to add some more personal opinion to any O'Neal/Odom scenario. The Lakers would most likely insist the Raptors take Vladimir Radmanovic and his hefty contract instead of Mihm's expiring, which might be too big of a long-term commitment for Colangelo to take on. Ditto adding Luke Walton).

This rumor is obviously made up by Toronto. JO just doesn't fit. Lakers are already trying to figure out how to play 2 bigs. JO is hobbled and just a jump shooter these days.

only way I do this trade is if Walton is included with Odom...

in ANY other scenario the answer is no.

Buss wouldn't. He'd have a payroll of over a 100 million with no real upgrade in talent this season. Luke is important to this team, and when he starts, he contract isn't bad.

Vlad on the other hand...

As many of you know, I am not a big fan of Odum's -- mostly for his late game decisions and inability to grab important rebounds or make just one clutch shot. That said, while JO's 2010 expiring is nice, NO WAY!!!! Honestly, Josh Powell is almost as useful as JO, and much more durable. Being able to possibly dump Vlad is tempting, but the injury prone JO is the LAST THING we need right now -- we can't afford any more injuries to bigs.

Now, Chris Bosh on the other hand......... he is leaving Toronto in 2 years anyway....

That would require Kobe to renegotiate and play nicely so that we can keep Trevor. Bye bye Vlad, Luke, or Sasha AND Mihm. Jordan on the other hand would be tougher to sign.

But wow, Pau, Bynum, and Bosh rotating at bigs would be fun fun fun.....they could take turns starting. LOL!! And we would be fine until the playoffs.

By the way, as much as I don't like Odum -- VLAD can't do anything right. Wow!!!

I agree. JO is always hurt. You would be trading a healthy player for an injured player. I don't see how that can possibly be a good idea.
