BDG's SPL Exclusive: Lakers vs. Mavericks [7/9/06]

Postby JSM on Sun Jul 09, 2006 3:09 pm

That is correct about the Mavs teams.

All their good players are in the Vegas League (Ager, Pavel, Pops, Emmitt, Powell)

thats an awesome statline.

Bynum really dominated with 14/15/5 :man4: :man4: :man4:

Now some people who ripped him after a first "solid" game will now eat their words.

Monster stats by Socks. 14/15 5 blocks? Nice.

Farmar? 13 pts, 6 assists. :man9:

Happy we got the win, seems that team chemistry is improving.

However, looking at the players on Dallas's roster...yep, most of their good players chose to play in the Las Vegas League. I mean, Josh Powell, Rawle Marshall, DJ Mbenga, Pavel Podkolzine, Maurice Ager and Andre Emmett aren't even on the team. The competition on their team seems a bit lowly, especially when some guy by the name of Ryan Forehan-Kelly is your team's leading scorer. Some recognizable names in DeAngelo Collins, Ivan Koljevic and Yuta Tabuse, but all are summer league fodder at best and have little chance of making the league.

I am impressed with Bynum, putting up 14 points, 15 rebounds and 5 blocks is definitely impressive, and he made his free throws again. Von Wafer looks like he woke up from his slumber the other game putting up 18 points. Farmar, Pinnock, Green, Douthit and even Marcus Slaughter were all pretty solid. All in all it looks like no one played horribly for us, and everyone who played made a case for themselves.

Mitch was on the radio today, here's a recap:

Lakers Dynasty 2000 wrote:LD2k's Mitch recap on 570 - 3:05PM:

- Mitch is hot, but pyramid is air conditioned. Fun time of year for Lakers
- Jordan played well yesterday, knows how to play the PG. For a 19 year old kid, he has an extremely bright future.
- Bynum had 15 rebounds, 6 blocks, 15 points. Jordan played well today as well.
- Wafer had 18 pts today - overall much better game than yesterday.
- Can't comment on Shammon.
- Intends to sign Vlad ASAP.
- We need another vet guard to compliment Smush would be helpful
- Smush Parker will be starter for the Lakers next season - :scurred:
- Did not play best basketball last three of four games of the post-season.
- Very unfair to point series loss on Smush; others didn't play well either.
- Marcus Williams thought he'd be gone, and was for the Lakers.
- There's a cost for moving up - had discussions, but weren't prepared to do a deal that's worth that.
- We don't have a trade "about to happen." But will look around, but Phil likes the idea of three centers. We're not going to make a trade just because we have three centers. Our three centers are good players (ignored the PG problem - or feels lack of).
- We'd like to say Bynum will be in the rotation. Like what we saw in practice. When Mihm got injured, Bynum soon after got injured as well. Next 10 days in long beach is "BIG" for Bynum.
- Pleased with two gamest thus far.
- Mitch is going to pursue ALL TRADE POSSIBILITIES, All-Star players are hard to come by. Would look into somebody with "KG caliber" IF someone like that was available.
- Mitch "thinks we imrpoved the team."
- Mitch is not intiminated by West teams. Thinks we can make it to conference finals or finals. Could be as good as anybody in the West.
- After free agent period began, Kobe feels the exact same way as Mitch does. Not for a second does he feel as if the team couldn't advance in the playoffs.
- Mitch feels that Vlad can defend players at that position
- Kwame came on the 2nd half of season defensively, Bynum can block, Mihm can block. Was a problem position.
- Thought Smush was pretty good defensively - not many teams can guard the Smush's & Nash's & Parker's
- Mitch projects Vlad as a player who plays "big minutes" and that in terms of being a starter or not - it would be Phil's desicion.
- Dr. Buss is very involved in terms of what goes on in terms of the big picture. At the end of the day, he gives his opinion but defers to the basketball management.
- Jimmy Buss acts and feels the same way his father does. Is knowledgable and is quick with the numbers; and is not afraid to give an opinion.

:mhihi: Yeah, this team would be SOOOOOO much better with Sean May. Bynum's a bust. Nevermind what he did to Shaq, Duncan, Curry, Foster......
