On a different note, did anybody see the two guys from the Georgia (the nation) beach volleyball team? Their names were George and Gia. I kid you not.

I believe it's "Geor" and "Gia". And yes, it's freaking awesome! :mhihi:

The Redeem team better take note of the Dream Softball team. Having dominated everyone and to only get silver is the kind of result the redeem team can be susceptible to.

Granted, the outcome of softball/baseball games is usually determined by a single position- pitching. USA softball ran into the best pitcher in the world, meanwhile their supposed "ace" fell apart by her standard. But the best has to beat the best. USA softball didn't do it.

What can the Rdeem team learn. Not to take nights off. NO team, no matter how good they are, can not have a bad night at this stage. There was a glimpse of USA basketball 2004 in the Australia game. No help D, bad shot selections, taking it easy on plays... Put two of those halves together then it's on to silver.

USA Softball get Silver :jam2: .............upsetting but still it is hard to beat the same team 3 times in one tournament. Japan has always played the US tough with Ueno pitching. Hats of to the Japan girls for winning the gold.

USA Womens Waterpolo gets silver :jam2: ........................... Again just got beat by the better team on the day still nothing to hold the heads down about. Olympic silver.

USA Womens Soccer gets GOLD :jam2: :jam2: :jam2: :jam2: :jam2: ............... They were supposed to be finished when Abby went down. Then they lost the first match 2-0 :man4: .what a great game that was Coach Pia pushed all the right buttons and Hope Solo redeemed herself from that World Cup debacle. :jam2: :jam2:

POSSIBLE SPOILER in yellow below-

US 4x100 relay teams (men and women) :bang: :bang: :bang: Gets the WTF of the day. I am not sure if it has been shown but it is all over ESPN, NBC Olympics and Yahoo.
For what it's worth, the Lakers also clinched the Pacific Division, an achievement Bryant dismissed by saying "We don't hang divisions." No, only the big NBA championship banners are considered wall-worthy for the Lakers.

WTH man, after thoroughly dominating everyone the US softball team loses in the finals. Thats like if our basketball team loses the Gold medal game.

Actually Japan has consistantly played the US tough with there last 5 or so meetings going extra innings. The other thing to note is that it is extremely difficult to beat the same team 3 times in one tournament especially a team of calibur like Japan. Japan and the Ausie are great teams and the US women just couldn't put that one big hit to get them on the board except for Busto's homer. Gotta give props to the Japanese pitcher she is known as the best for a reason 400+ pitches in 35hrs, 3 complete games (two of which were extra 9 inning games). We got beat by the better team on the day hats off to them. US won the Silver

The sad part is that they will not be able to get redemption in 2012. :jam2:

They would have won if it wasn't for that double elimination format.

^ yeah I think it should be like the College World Series where you have to beat the undeafeted team twice to win it all

That dude dived for third place. Amazing... he injured himself in the process too. But US sweep. Although Warner was upset.

^ I think the Jamaicans would have been hard to beat but we should still be there in the Finals The US needs to really dig deep on the character of this track team. I think the Balco thing killed the swagger we once had.

In other news the IOC has launced a formal investigation into the Chinese girls ages. If it is proven they are to young they lose the medals and the American girls move up in almost every catagory. This is the NBCOLYMPICS report on it. I have also heard it spoken about on ESPN earlier tonight.

http://www.nbcolympics.com/gymnastics/n ... ions+proof

Some blurbs from the report I found interesting:

The coach trying to prove He's age. Does anyone else think the Chinese would forge the documents to gain victory at these games?
Chinese coach Lu Shanzhen told The Associated Press they gave the FIG new documents on Thursday to try to remove any doubts about He's age, including an old passport, residency card and her current ID card.

Lu said all the documents were issued by various departments of the Chinese government, and that he had nothing more to put forth as evidence.

He responding to the questions of age and some of the things that were posted as early as 2006:
Asked earlier this week about her age again after winning the uneven bars title, beating American Nastia Liukin in a tiebreak, she said:

"I was born in 1992, and I'm 16 years old now," He said. "The FIG has proved that. If I'm under 16, I couldn't have been competing here."

Earlier this month, the AP found registration lists previously posted on the Web site of the General Administration of Sport of China that showed both He and Yang were too young to compete. He was born Jan. 1, 1994, according to the 2005, 2006 and 2007 registration lists. Yang was born Aug. 26, 1993, according to the 2004, 2005 and 2006 registration lists. In the 2007 registration list, however, her birthday has changed to Aug. 26, 1992.

a little history of the when the age was changed
Age falsification has been a problem in gymnastics since the 1980s after the minimum age was raised from 14 to 15 to protect young athletes from serious injuries. The minimum age was raised to its current 16 in 1997.

The advantage that the younger girls have:
Younger gymnasts are considered to have an advantage because they are more flexible, and are likely to have an easier time doing the tough skills the sport requires. They also aren't as likely to have a history of injuries or fear of failure.

One of China's athletes confirming they lied about her age in Sydney
Even China's own Yang Yun, a double bronze medalist in Sydney, said during an interview aired on state broadcaster China Central Television that she was 14 in 2000.

That was a freakin' good match, US up 2-0, Russia comes back and ties it 2-2 and the last game was very suspenseful.
