All US Teams thread!

So should this thread also include the other US Teams or just the basketball team? I know we have a lot of fans from all over the world but I get excited watching US vs (anyone) though I may be alone with that feeling.

Now that I think about it I'll just make this the "US TEAM Thread" thread. So go ahead and discuss any US vs (insert name/group/country) and brag or show disappointment.

I'll go first.

I just watched one of our girls in Badmitton (sp?) lose to a Canuck who was actually trash talking before the games :mad1:

Even still our girl (ranked 64th in the world) gave the Canuck (Ranked 30 something) a real good run for her money.

Good Idea! I was watching the jaw dropping opening ceremony and was going to comment we don't have a section for that. The visuals were amazing. Looking forward to all the other games - soccer, swimming, track and field, etc.

BEIJING (AP)—Mariel Zagunis stood proudly atop the podium, the first American to do so at these Olympics.

A former president was in the front row—and three red, white and blue flags were rising to the rafters.

“It was a dream come true,” Zagunis said.

Zagunis won the first U.S. gold medal of the Beijing Games, leading an American sweep Saturday in women’s saber fencing. Zagunis took the gold with a 15-8 victory over Sada Jacobson, who won the silver. Becca Ward took the bronze.

Before the fencing medals were awarded, the Americans had been shut out of Olympic medals, trailing the likes of Cuba, North Korea, Taiwan and Uzbekistan in the overall standings. Then the saber trio went to work, moving the U.S. to the top of the table with three medals.

And to make the night even more memorable, former President George H.W. Bush was in the front row for the medal ceremony, just to the side of where the three flags were lifted.

I guess the announcer doesn't see the importance of sending a psychological message to the rest of the field. He keeps saying it was unnecessary for Phelps to perform as hard as he did in a qualifying round.

Hell, he put it on cruise at the end and still broke the record, so I don't know what he's talking about. :man10:

Wow...they completely screwed us by cutting off the end of the National Anthem during Phelps' medal acceptance.

They spend $300 million on the opening ceremonies and can't get a decent record player up in the joint? :mad1:

Did you really just compare arguably the greatest swimmer ever to Chris Mhim? I hope you are only referencing that they are both tall or both Anglo because all other comparisons should end right there.
