You know should the US be thanking Kobe for they gold they are about to get.

LBJ, Carmelo and Wayne couldnt do it before and now that the Mamba is here they most likely get it...

I love Kobe just as much as the next guy on CL, but to be thanking him solely for the Gold is pretty ridiculous. He played sub par the first few games, and has gotten into a rhytem the last few. Meanwhile guys like Lebron, Wade, etc have been pretty consistent and effective throughout. This is defiantly a team victory, if we only thanked kobe then we'd be coming off as bona fide homers.
This game's in the refrigerator: the door is closed, the lights are out, the eggs are cooling, the butter's getting hard, and the Jello's jigglin'! - Chick Hearn RIP

Even w/o Kobe this year, team USA would win the gold because their attitude is different.

What do you have to back this assumption with?

That's right and i bet this is the last time US will win Gold unless Andrew Byum joins the US team....

I doubt Kobe can handle another olympics he would be 34 in 2012 so everybody should embrace this :jam2:

Paul said Bryant's presence on the team "gives us just a little bit more swagger, more confidence. It's just another competitor that we have on this team."

And one who could be the difference between third and first place.

"He's that one guy on our team that can seize the moment, that can sense the knockout punch," James said. "He likes hitting the dagger. He's not afraid to take any shot, and he's won championships. He's been in big games before. He's mentally always prepared, focused. He's always on. Never off."

Crack is a bad thing. I'll help you out here, Team USA has a different attitude BECAUSE of Kobe. There is a reason they say Lebron is the VOCAL leader and Kobe is the on the floor leader.
For what it's worth, the Lakers also clinched the Pacific Division, an achievement Bryant dismissed by saying "We don't hang divisions." No, only the big NBA championship banners are considered wall-worthy for the Lakers.

Kobe has been a integral part to Team USA,but basketball is a team sport, the team has been successful because of their collective effort,Kobe isn't the sole reason why we're on the verge of winning gold.
A deep man, believes that the evil eye can wither, that the heart's blessing can heal, and that love can overcome all odds.

Kobe and Kidd are the real reason why this team is winning this year.

Why?

Kidd - Playmaker, defender, glue guy who isn't trying to look "cool" just trying to help the team win, cool under pressure. Talks to players one on one, asking them specifically what area of the floor is easier for them to get their shot off, and what way can they be most successful.

Kobe - man 2 man defender who doesn't need to gamble or roam to appear to play defense, steps up his game when it's needed (especially against Australia). Unlike Lebron who just "vocalizes" his leadership, Kobe actually goes to games and scouts and comes back to share real information and insight.
"Every time he’s hurt, he always plays, he always comes through."

- Metta World Peace on teammate Kobe Bryant

it's hard to do anything sitting on the pine.. plus how old were they in 04?? 19, 20 and 21 respectively, and just completed their rookie year? they're VASTLY different players right now as evident of their play
It's the length of one day.. One half.. One shot clock.. This number is my promise, to dominate every moment..

To be fair Lebron is a vaslty better player right now then in 04'. I like Kobe but to say this team can't win gold without him is not true.

So when will you start doing that? The fact that you said Kobe being the difference maker is debateable shows you are giving very little credit to where it is due.

LBJ and Melo and Wade all have stated themselves that Kobe and the defensive pressence he brings is the difference. Tell me if Kobe didn't come which one of those three would stick the other teams best player? None of these guys are known for defense despite what DWade said the other day about being a great defender. The fact is DWade's new found steal totals on the international game is because of the pressure up top by the gaurds.

Unfortunately the average fan only likes the "flash" instead of the "substance" that's why most loved having D Howard on the team and didn't want C Bosh. Good thing the USA Coaches aren't the average fan huh? Howards a dunker and thats exciting yet Bosh has been by far the best big man (and arguably overall) we have had. Where's the credit where its due?

dude.. i give credit to kobe.. he's made a HELL of a difference in this team.. but to say he's the SOLE difference?! no i don't agree.. put simply, this team was assembled with components which COMPLIMENT one another.. and kobe is an instrumental PART of the machine, he doesn't RUN it..

p.s. "dabateable" means an argument can be made from a different point of view.. it doesn't mean i disregard or discredit what kobe's done on this team
