Krzyzewski Won't Return As U.S. Coach.

Duke head coach Mike Krzyzewski will not return to coach Team USA after the conclusion of this month's Olympic Games in Beijing, according to The Boston Globe.

USA Basketball managing director Jerry Colangelo says he will decide who will take over after the Olympics.

It's a big commitment of time during the summer for the coach who is already working the rest of the year. Coach K is 61; he made a 3 year commitment back in '05 and I don't blame him for wanting to step aside now.

Hopefully, the new coach honors the basic blueprint Coach K and his assistants set up. Keep the offense simple and allow for the stars to freelance within the offense; keep the defense-first mindset going. The team's dominance this year is a direct result of the excellent defense they've been playing and it's important for the next coach to keep that up. The good news is that Colangelo is keeping his hands on the operation, that will insure a degree of continuity.

pjax is older than coach k so i won't bet on pjax going into olympic play.

It's really a younger man's job due to the year-round nature of the commitment to the this job as well as his own job through the next Olympics. This is important to keep the continuity and familiarity with the system. It really helps if the players in the program know what to expect when they show up every summer. So PJax is out and you won't see Pop. So Scott seems like the best choice. MacMillan wouldn't be a bad choice. What other younger coaches in the pro or college level would be good here? Coach K has shown that college coaches can do it so don't write them off.

I could coach those players to gold...its not like its a giant mountain to claim.

They have enaugh talent to win w/o a coach.

Please see 2004 Olympics and 2006 World Championships as to why it is absolutely necessary to have a Coach like Coach K on this team.

2004 the team was too young...after all they had SCRUBS on that team.

Richard Jefferson, Stephon Marbury, Shawn Marion, Duncan, Iverson...beside Duncan the rest aren't exactly NBA elite players...

Melo, Amare, Boozer, Okafor, Wade were all too young and barely played nor were they good enaugh to play at that time.

2006 the problem was arrogance and lack of chemistry.

The current team is WAY WAY better than those teams in terms of talent.

It was always obvious, the only team that can beat Team USA is team USA themselves.
