This USA squad is extremely talented but they are awful in terms of team play and execution. I blame the coaching staff.
The offense looked terrible.
It's basically give the ball to someone and he goes 1 on 1 against his guy. Zone? Shoot 20+ 3s every game.
They don't post players up (Kobe should be posting up, so should LeBron, Melo..), their P&R isn't very effective, they run few off-the-ball screens..
At times someone will penetrate easily and because of how unexpectably easy it was to penetrate he isn't ready to make a quick decision.
They over-pass. They don't have a go-to play in the clutch. It's like Krzyzewski just said "F it, just go out there and do what you do best".

They have good stretches, but if they aren't making outside jumpers it becomes almost painful to watch. At times all 5 players are standing on the perimeter passing the ball to each other waiting for someone to create.. They mis-use players (Kobe especially). They don't take advantage of mismatches. It should be much easier.

They are gonna need to really sustain the kind of ball pressure we saw in games like the one against Brazil so that they can run and score easily, otherwise things might get tough like today. The game against Tuesday vs Spain should tell more about necessary adjustments
"The first time I ever saw my uniform hanging in the locker I put it on right away, and it just felt like I was putting on golden armour. From that day forward, I just called it 'the golden armour', it just felt like there was something mystical and magical about it" - Kobe Bryant.

Basically Team USA is, and always will be, a very talented but dysfunctional offensive unit...

If they don't make a consistent effort on defense, they will struggle against the top FIBA teams.

When they choose to play lock down defense, they are unbeatable....

Way too many jumpshots , they need to attack the rim and used somebody ( Bron, Kobe or Melo) as a post presence ... only KD should have the green light to fire up many threes

Defensively , these small lineups aren't working well , Melo at the 4 , KD/Love at the 5 are bad defenders ... even if he's a rookie , Davis has to get some minutes on this team ...

These are just friendly games but if they don't change the way they play and Mike K doesn't change his rotations , I think Spain has a good chance to beat them ...

They can't win against the Spain playing like this ... they don't have to score from the inside but they have to play inside-out ... getting to the 3pt acr and pass it to the wing and shooting threes ins't the O they should be playing .. hell even lakers play more functional O than that

The problem is when guys like Durant & Kobe start off lighting it up from Three, the guys like Westbrook & Melo start thinking they can get in on the action... That's when the game starts going to crap...

Yes, and they live off the 3. But why doesn't that stop when they aren't making it? During that 2nd quarter run, they kept shooting 3s..
What bothers me the most is that no one's posting up. Not Kobe, not Melo, not LeBron, no one. I don't get that. It'd make things much easier. Don't you think a guy like Kobe posting up would command a double team? Players cut to the basket, you get some ball movement, and find guys for open shots and drives.
It's not an inside-out offense, it's just and -out offense. There's no inside.

That's why I think Krzyzewski is overrated. People keep citing his win-loss record. It's starting to look more and more like it was all due to the unbelievable amount of talent & athleticism he's had on every roster he's coached.
Obviously he's probably saving some stuff for the actual olympic games, but I have yet to see any semblance of a solid offense.

They had the same problems in 2008 when they won the gold. I know people will say talent alone doesn't win you championships (in this case gold), but this team just has way too much talent, no matter how dysfunctional the offense is.

Of course Coach K is overrated hell even I would have similar record with those guys ... His O schemes were terrible even in the last Olympics ... they need someone like Sloan a guy who runs picks, cuts, picks off the ball - that's the European basketball ...

Yeah but in 08 they had Bosh and Prince real big men ... say what you want about Bosh he was cruacial for team's USA gameplay ... but now it'S basically 4 guys around 3 point line (none of those is 3PT specialist) and one PF who is playing on top of the key ...

Anyway we will see against Spain but I think Spain can beat them even without Rubio
