Your Team USA Final Cuts

Your Team USA Final Cuts

Postby Xepa on Mon Jul 23, 2007 1:05 am

What's your opinion and why?
List:

1) Who's first and second unit
2) who are the ones getting the "cut"

FIRST UNIT
------------------
Kidd - main distributor, puts everyone in position
Kobe - "shot clock" bail-out guy, glue guy, give team swagger
Melo - main shooter, offensive focus
Lebron - guard those pesky 4s that shoot threes while having agility to drive
Dwight - dirty work on the board, compensating for lebron

SECOND UNIT
--------------------
Billups-can compose the second team well
Redd - specialist shooter at SG
Tayshaun - glue guy of second unit, defender and intangible guy
Bosh - offensive focus of second unit, low post presence
Chandler - dirty work on the boards, blocks shots

SPECIALIST
---------------------
Shane Battier - his presence is felt most in lockerroom, so you still maximize his upside
Mike Miller - specialist for when you need to space floor. Miller+Redd to space floor so someone like Kobe can Drive at will.

Amare gets the cut because he underperformed last year and he simply doesn't fit the "mold" of team usa, being a big who's not the greatest of rebounders and defenders.

1st Unit
Jason Kidd - best PG in the league
Kobe Bryant - i dont think this one needs explanation
Lebronze James - good drive and kick threat
Chris Bosh - offensive presence in the post and can also shoot from the outside
Dwight Howard - beast

2nd Unit
Deron Williams - awesome playmaker like kidd
Chauncey Billups - championship experience and brings toughness to the 2nd unit
Carmelo Anthony - good scorer from anywhere on the court
Kevin Durant - better than i thought he would be
Tyson Chandler - rebounding machine

Extras
Mike Miller - i dont like him but hes a good 3 point shooter
Kirk Hinrich - good ball handler and distributer that can score too

Call me crazy, but I'd lose Billups. Not a whole lot he can bring that we dont already have.

Kidd
Kobe
Melo
LBJ
Howard

Williams
Durant
Melo
Bosh
Amare

Miller
Hinrich or Chandler.

Probably Chandler b/c we can never have too many bigs. He can rebound, block shots, alter shots, and finish.

I agree with cutting Billups although I did not see him to much during the scrimmage to reason submit my cause but he's definately on the fence in my eyes

1st unit:

Kidd
Kobe
LeBron
Bosh
Howard

2nd unit:

Deron Williams
Mike Miller
Carmelo
Battier
Amare

Reserves:

Durant
(For the last roster spot, I'm torn between Redd, Billups, or Chandler. Do they want another shooter, PG, or big?)

Starters
PG: Kidd
SG: Kobe
SF: Bron
PF: Bosh
C: Dwight

Bench
Deron
Billups
Melo
Amare
Chandler

Reserves
Durant
Redd

My reasoning: Amare doesn't need to start with Dwight because they have very similar skill sets, Bosh brings some range to the table.

Billups is needed because of his backcourt experience and defense, he can easily slide over to SG. The second unit needs a scorer, that is why I kept Melo on the second unit. The first unit doesn't need one with Kobe and Bron there, also I think Bron at PF isn't a good idea.

I went with a backup frontcourt of Amare and Chandler, we need size. Amare can do plenty of scoring and allow Chandler to be in the game strictly for rebounding and blocking (which he did plenty of in the scrimmage).

For my reserves I went with Redd because he can shoot lights out (no need for Redick or Michelle Miller when you have Redd). Also, I have Durant on there. He looked much more poised against NBA superstars than he did VSL scrubs which surprised me. He is another instant production guy off the bench.

Now by that lineup I sacrificed some defense off the bench by keeping off Prince and Battier. I think the frontcourt towers and Billups bring enough defensive energy off the bench to hold down the fort and these two would be like Bowen last year. I think we will be seeing more team defense than individual lock down assignments.

Re: Your Team USA Final Cuts

1st Unit
------------------
Kidd - best point guard in the world (along with Nash)
Kobe - best in the world period
Bron - 2nd best in the world
Amare - beast
Dwight - best C candidate on squad

2nd Unit
--------------------
Billups - clutch vet, playmaker, shooter
Redd - unstoppable scorer
Melo - phenomenal
Battier - defensive ace, glue guy, sniper
Bosh - big enough to get it done at C

The Rest
---------------------
Deron - PG insurance and Billups has size to also play SG
Durant - legit

Explanation
---------------------

Kidd, Kobe, Bron, Amare and Howard start. Melo is 6th man. Battier is kept on because he can play PF along with defense, sniping and leadership. Billups has earned a spot and will also bring shooting, leadership, and playmaking. Bosh will be the primary big man reserve. Redd is another phenomenal shooter and scorer. Deron makes sure we're not short at PG, and Durant is a phenomenal scorer, shooter and big enough to probably play some PF too (in a pinch).

As for who can play the positions:

1 - Kidd, Billups, Deron, Bron
2 - Kobe, Redd, Bron, Billups, Durant
3 - Bron, Melo, Redd, Battier, Kobe, Durant
4 - Amare, Howard, Bosh, Battier, Durant, Melo, Bron
5 - Howard, Bosh, Amare

When Oden is available next summer, he'll probably be the 4th center and probably replace Battier.

Also, I don't think everyone is being realistic putting Bosh and/or Howard ahead of Amare. Those two are not at Amare's level yet, and he is our most dominant big man, while also having a nice jump shot.

If Amare starts at PF, then Howard will probably start at C (Bosh the other less likely option). If Amare starts at C, then both Howard and Bosh will come off the bench (and Melo will probably start at PF, depending on the matchup).

I don't think there is any chance of Dwight not starting. He's the biggest monster on the team. He's the only guy that the other bigs just backed away from and let him do whatever he was going to do. Amare has shed some weight, but standing next to Dwight was the first time I've seen Amare look small.

Talent wise I think Amare > Bosh, but Dwight and Amare is a little too repetitive for my tastes. While Amare has added a little range to his game, Bosh still has more range and brings other offensive weapons to the table. Amare and Dwight are primarily power players and Bosh brings some finesse to the lineup. Those up and under moves he pulled off were something I'd expect to see out of Kobe, not a big man.

And you know D'Antoni will be all for Amare coming off the bench because it is in the best interest for the Suns.

Melo won't start at PF because it takes a way instant buckets from the bench and he won't be able to be properly utilized with Kobe out there.

The only weakness I see on this team is @ Power Forward - we have no big guy that can dribble, pass, defend, and shoot from distance / unless the Matrix is healthy, then he is my answer as the ultimate garbage man with multiple skill set.
I wish Gerald Wallace were involved, he's got the intangibles just like Marion.
Further, when LO gets healthy, I like his versatility. (Please no LO bashing)

With scorers like KB, Lebron, Melo, and Amare down low - we need trash collectors. I'd rather have the Matrix over Battier all day.

I like Heinrich, but he's out.
So is JJ (obviously).

Jason Kidd will be a difference maker...USA Gold in '08.

Intangibles are what is going to help the US finally recapture the gold. You can have all the talent and one on one players in the world, but if you don't have defenders, rebounders and hustle players we'll lose again.

PG - Kidd, Billups
SG - Bryant, Redd, Miller
SF- Lebron, Melo, Prince,
PF- Amare, Battier
C- Howard, Chandler

FIRST UNIT
------------------
Kidd -
Kobe -
Lebron -
AMARE
Howard

^^^This is how the game was meant to be played ..it's not about feelings..Melo is good and all but ..this gives us every rebound and missed shot ..and provides defense.and inteior D.

SECOND UNIT
--------------------
Billups-
MELO-
Tayshaun -
Bosh -
Chandler -

SPECIALIST
---------------------
Shane Battier - his presence is felt most in lockerroom, so you still maximize his upside
Mike Miller - specialist for when you need to space floor. Miller+Redd to space floor so someone like Kobe can Drive at will.

Melo would be more likely to play PF than Bron, at least IMO.

I don't think either one of them could play it myself, especialy if the other teams are puting true PF's out there. If not then I'd probably put LeBron at the 3 and Bosh or Amare at PF and leave Howard at center so

Kidd
Kobe
LeBron
Bosh/Amare
Howard

Jason Kidd
Kobe
Lebron
Chris Bosh
Dwight

I'm sorry but I'd rather have two seven footers in the post , as opposed to Dwight, and Lebron. Chris Bosh would be a much better PF then lebron. And Carmelo is better then Lebron offensively in my opinion, but since Lebron is bigger, and can shut down the scrawny international SF's I'd rather have him start.

deron
miller/durant, can't decide. i'll pick miller for now b/c he's older
lebron
amare
chandler

durant, redd, hinrich, prince, battier

i hate to see prince on the bench...love his game. if chandler isn't in, prince can play SF or just sub in for melo.
