The day when Kobe jumps over a moving Aston MartinI’m sure everybody heard and seen the new Kobe Nike’s commercial whether you’re a Laker or non-Laker fan. Kobe Bryant and teammate Ronny Turiaff were in the video. Kobe showed his new Nike endorsement shoes and wears it to perform a stunt never been seen in TV (I mentioned never been seen because, I have never seen a high paid athlete that performed a kind of stunt in public). A convertible car zooms in front of Kobe and the next thing I saw he was hanging in mid air then landed down the cement road safely. “That is how you jump over an Aston Martin, Boy!…” YouTube love it, all the media in Los Angeles loves it and I’m sure through out the world loves it too. I’m sure all his fans cheered-up and amazed from what their idolize basketball player did. I read a lot of comments, reactions and post over the Internet regarding that video. I discovered that 50% believed its true (most came from the Lakers Fan community) and 50% said it’s a fake (most came form the non-Lakers Fan community). In my own personal observation regarding the video, it’s both true and fake. I say it’s true because, YES! As I have seen in the video, Kobe can jump that high to avoid a car zooming in front of him. But I don’t think his rational enough to do that. On the other hand, YES! It’s a fake, an old camera trick used by magicians and Hollywood directors to trick innocent audience(s). Kobe himself mentioned it after the Clipper game interview. “It’s Hollywood…” How did I know it’s a FAKE? I used the pause button. While Kobe was preparing to jump and as the hood of the car appears in the screen, I press the pause button. I discovered that Kobe’s shadow was NOT aligned with the car’s shadow which means it’s parallel with each other. This means that Kobe was standing somewhere in the middle of the road and the car was zooming near his right side. This is a safety precaution just in case he jump to slow or landed too soon, he will still be able to avoid the car. I was also wondering that the basketball board’s shadow in the video probably a marker for Kobe from where he supposed to stand and most likely they shot that video in a parking lot rooftop to avoid unwanted spectators. Don’t gave me a wrong idea ok, because I, myself is a Laker fan too (Starting from the Shaq-Kobe Era up to present). But, just like what I said a while ago, he CAN jump that high to avoid it. But he won’t going to do it. Kobe is an athlete not a stunt man. What if Kobe actually jumps over a moving a car without using any camera trick? Well, I say there are PROS and CONS in that event. PROS: I’ll be astound with his guts! This is man who is not pressured to take a free throw shots in a very close game, who’s not afraid to take a winning shot with a few seconds remaining and who’s not afraid to jump over a moving vehicle with no camera trick involve. That’s one for the Guinness Book of Records. CONS: Jumping high is not the issue here, it’s the timing. If Kobe miscalculates his jump he will end up with a possible broken leg or a broken foot (Ariza) or a knee injury (Bynum) or worst, aggravate his broken pinky. Kobe will be the stupid professional athlete in the word. Why? 1. He will lose the MVP race (Chris Paul will love this). It’s not worth it for a new Nike Shoes Commercial. I’m not against with the video, in fact I love it. I think it’s the best commercial of Kobe Bryant (sorry Addidas). Better than the Einstein, Newton, Edison and so on commercials. Come to think about the video, my favorite line is when Turiaff mention something about: “We need you in the Playoff.” Quit realistic for showing a concern. But among all the Lakers’ players I asked “why Turiaff?” (Besides the intensity Turiaff brings in every Laker game) • It would be unrealistic if his with Lamar Odom. Their goes my comment fellow Laker Fans. You might understand me if your really a Laker Fan. I’m hoping that I’m not too late to write this article to remind everybody that it’s a FAKE! I Hope that no stupid fan will buy that shoes and attempt to jump over a moving vehicle. Your not Kobe Bryant and you need proper training to learn how to make special effects and camera tricks just like that. The shoes are for basketball not for stunt! Listen to Kobe: “Do not try what we’re about to attempt right now…” I was wondering what Lebron is thinking right now for his next Nike commercial. Sound off in the Los Angeles Lakers Forums!
