D12 Discussion: Dwightmare over! (1139)

Re: Dwight Discussion:"the legacy,the history..means a lot"(893)

The Adidas deal was/is always looming. As I said a couple of pages ago, Derrick Rose got reported 14 year $260 million dollar deal; if Dwight is in this market and is going to get a similar contract which is reported, he'd be insane to leave. That's why he isn't, IMO.

Very simple. But let everybody on ESPN speculate; it gives them something to do...

One of Dwight's best attributes is availability. Hes missed only like 6 games considering the myriad of injuries hes had and a shoulder injury thats due for surgery.

Are you referring to big men? Probably not given that we established this isn't the era of big men in the NBA and that Dwight is legitimately a top center in this league.

Just because he's a top player at his position does not mean he's the ideal piece for this team. If you're not referring to big men my list of No.2 guys that are better for this team is long.

Quite frankly, we do need another piece. He can't shoot FT's and his post-game isn't elite by any stretch of the imagination. We need another guy post-Kobe that can take over the 4th quarter when games get tight. Kyrie, anyone?

No.... we'd be hard pressed to ever find a 1-B option as good as him. Especially so at at a very shallow position.

The rub is finding that 1-A to go along with him after Kobe retires.

My only concern would be that the "other guy" isn't a super ball dominant point guard. Not sure that combination would work. We need a dominant wing player to go with Howard and a single purpose point guard rather than the CP3 type.

really like that he's at least starting to say he wants to be here long term. that's the first step towards rebuilding in the coming post-kobe era.

Well if Adidas in on board then I'm sure he is..... He still wants his lifetime contract like D-Rose was offered a year ago. I actually think "Team Dwight" has been looking to secure that before he decided where to go..... or where to stay.

Maybe that Dwight thing was filmed before all of this drama? =(

I really don't think D12 is a guy you can build around. But I don't that should change our mind about wanting him a Laker for the long haul either.

If this is still indeed his line of thinking, we should feel very fortunate that after a season marred with injury, coaching changes and discord a top 5 NBA player (when he’s actually healthy which he is CLEARLY not right now) still wants to stay here. He isn’t perfect, but he’s a definite cornerstone. They key will be management finding the right complimentary piece to go with him.

I've wondered about the new CBA creating a new trend with signings, where you sign a player because a team that wants him but can't S&T for him has assets you want. Say a team wants Pau, they sign smoove & then trade him to us at the deadline.

Let's keep it simple: Lamar Odom's body and skill set with Kobe's brain and drive.

Back on topic: I am more sure about D12 staying than I have been. It's been a real tough season, but in some ways that's a good thing for him to experience real adversity and have to make positive changes. Like cutting back on his sweets, like trying harder to make pick and roll work with Nash, like working himself back into shape. Even without the lift he had before, he could still be devastatingly effective at the defensive end. Just cannot replace that easily if he leaves. Mitch has said as much...
I shall be telling this with a sigh

Two roads diverged in a wood, and I--
I took the one less traveled by,

He's not leaving. The team is his once Kobe leaves.

As for being right for the team, D'Antoni is wrong for the team. He needs to go, not Dwight. Dwight needs to be the defensive presence a la Russell. But he needs a star perimeter player and a star forward to win championships. And Pau and Nash are too old. Trade Pau for one of the needs, and get a decent PG to back up Nash.

post kobe, i'm sure the lakers are going to go after a wing or a pg. they'll go hard after whomever is a FA. i'm keeping an eye on john wall's development. i still think he has major potential, and the lakers may be able to convince him to change teams.

I was frustrated for him tonight. He had maybe 3 post touches all game. I thought they should have gone into him a lot more.

But the shots were falling and he didn't stop working hard.

Big props to him for his defensive effort.

4 blocks, a couple of them monster blocks, haven't seen him get up like that for blocks all season. Hopefully that's a sign he IS slowly getting back to his old self.

The lack of shots and touches sucks for him, but I kind of get why it stops when he bricks 2 free throws in a row multiple times, gets blocked on a shot attempt, and has it immediately stolen on another because he goes into his move before he checks his surroundings

I don't know, that argument is pretty cyclical. If they gave him the ball enough for him to feel comfortable, maybe he doesn't stink as much.

What is limiting his touches right now most is the defense. They're double and triple teaming him pretty much at all times which is why Kobe and Nash and Blake are seeing so many lanes to the basket.

Yeah, me too. And he did seem just a little pouty about it but still rolled with it. They should have got him some more looks. He did a good job sticking with the rebounding and defense though. Kept us his good work on that end of things. He needs more touches though.
