D12 Discussion: Dwightmare over! (1139)

Oh ok, if you're not saying that team is a champion then that's different. That's the only way I look at teams as a Lakers fan, are they championship caliber or not. If that's what we have to look forward to realistically then I'm not thrilled about the future. I don't think we have to settle for that though, I think we can land a big name in 2014 free agency if we keep Dwight here as you have been saying all season. I'd just rather not settle for second or third tier guys like Monta Ellis to be a main piece. That said I do like the idea you and Doc have thrown out there of trading Pau for Ellis/Mbah a Moute/Udoh. I like that becuse it gives us Ellis to replace Kobe (as long as he's out and then maybe a 6th man when he returns) next to Nash who can be that steadying guy if Ellis gets outta control, and we still have Howard and get a decent bench defender in Mbah a Moute.

The only criticism would be not staying on the floor when Duncan had the ball..... he had Dwight jumping out of the building a few times.

True ... thing is Dwight is a small 6'10 , he's not going to bother Timmy release by staying on the ground

Yeah, Duncan's a beast. That footwork.

Nah, I'm very pleased with Dwight. Solid game, picked up the slack. Even finished at about 48% FT, his average for the season.

Duncan on back to back possessions first posterized poor Pau and then made Howard look like a rookie..... it was pretty telling who has the fundamentals and who doesn't on those two plays.....

This is Duncan we are talking about though. Gasol's current lack of mobility showed on that play. Howard? Just your shotblocker mentality where they bite on everything even the most subtle of fakes. Having said that, now if this was somebody like a Robin Lopez...yes, then I can see where it would be an issue.

Despite Duncan schooling both of them a couple of times both out played him in their own way. Gasol had like 3-4 blocks and 17 rebs and excellent defense. Howard just dominated him.

Yep.

And don't forget Howard had his way with Duncan for the majority of the game. Dwight was a total monster on that end for Tim. Pau not as much, but he had a bad night in general from the field.

However, I would think about starting with the dynamic, scoring PG. That would work well. Get a defensive 2 instead of a scoring 2, SF and PF that are hustlers who can stretch the floor -- and you have an instant contender.

No I agree. I think it's easier to find athletic, defensive 2s and 3s than it is to find an athletic, defensive 1. And we need a defender that can bother 1s and 2s.

I'd say go after the dynamic PG if you can. There's a few out there that can fit the bill. Then go after the Sefoloshas and those types. Then go after a creator off the bench who can score for himself. I don't have any name that fits there, but there's bound to be someone. To throw some names out there of guys available in the next 2 years...

PG- Monta Ellis
SG- Gerald Henderson
SF- Evan Turner
PF- Paul Milsap
C- Dwight Howard

With guys like Morrow, Clark, Hill, and a couple of veterans on the bench? That's a team that can contend if they get/stay healthy. And that's not even a team that I think is our ceiling.

If we can't get Kyrie or Wall, there are a ton of other guards that would be better fits with Dwight than Monta. Conley, Lawson, Lillard, Jrue, Rubio, Dragic, Curry, Teague, Kemba, Jennings.. This league is loaded with PG's. Don't like Monta as the dominant ball handler. I'd say maybe get a PG + also Monta but it hasn't worked with Curry or Jennings. Maybe it'd work with the more traditional PG's like Rubio or Vasquez. I think Monta needs a team with no true star loaded with defenders ala the 04 Pistons or Iverson's 6'ers to succeed. He's just too much of a chucker to work with another #1.

1. How is it likely to obtain any of those you mentioned outside of Dragic or Jennings and between those two how are they better?

2. The team you described second is the exact team that will be built to win Championships under the new CBA. Talent spread thinner due to financial constraints.

what i liked the most about Dwight last night was the intensity and seriousness he brought...even in the immediate post-game interview (court side) he still wasn't smiling or clowning around

Sources Say Dwight Howard Plans To Re-Sign With Lakers
Sam Amick of USA Today reported Howard plans to remain in Laker land:

While the center who will be a free agent this summer has continued his noncommittal stance about whether he will sign with the Lakers or head elsewhere, two people close to him said they fully expect him to return. The people spoke to USA TODAY Sports on the condition of anonymity out of respect for Howard’s decision to wait until the summer to make his final choice.

Was nice to see him finally put our team on his back and dominate for an important W.

I wish he played that hard every night, maybe we wouldn't be in this situation -- Kobe included. Not blaming him. Just saying it was clear he was pouting for a bit (getting out-rebounded by several smaller teams) cause he wasn't getting the ball. Now -- finally - he has something to prove because Kobe is out.

Not too surprised really, I just don't see why he'd leave as everything he could want and more is here in LA.

throughout the season i thought it would be very likely he'd be back next year, but what he's said and done since kobe went down really confirmed it IMO. he seems like he legit wants to be here and lead the lakers in the future

As show time revival stated, you can see the pride and the willingness and drive for Dwight to want to be our next franchise player. He really wants to take us to the promised land and I hope he does.

They retired Shaq's so early because of Dr. Buss' health. It's sad that he wasn't able to see it.
