Dwight put on a clinic tonight. His defense was absolutely superb! You could tell he was in Harden's head, and I saw Harden give up the rock early a few times while driving to make someone else make a play. To make a star second guess himself like that, and take away his bread and butter is huge.

Dwight has been slowly winning me over. It's great to see him rounding into form, and putting in the effort. Much respect.

To be fair, I'm pretty sure people said the difference between them offensively was minimal, don't remember it being defense. But let's not forget how good Drew could be when he wanted to, he changed a ton of shots most games, and had that 9 or 10 blocks game in the playoffs. As far as the Nash thing, I'm pretty sure it was explained by realdeal or someone else that the Nash trade at the time seemed like it would have more impact because we'd have a guard to finally take the ball out of Kobe's hands all the time, where going from Bynum to Howard wasn't as big a leap as going from Fisher/Sessions/Blake to Nash. And IMO that's true, the leap from healthy Drew to Dwight isn't as large as the PG's I listed to what we thought would be a healthy Nash. I don't see the point in calling people delusional and laughing at them for having different opinions than you based on solid points.

I think what people used to say to make a case for Bynum was that defensively the difference isn't that great but offensively its Drew by a mile.

And kinda OT, but the mention of the Nash trade's importance made me think of that thread that was made prior to the start of the season asking who was our best player......I remember someone debating that Kobe was a distant second to Dwight and that he was moreso battling for 2nd/3rd place with Nash or Gasol (dont remember which). That turned out to be a little.......inaccurate.

Another dominant defensive game by the big fella. :jam2:

Don't know how much longer I can take the suspense: Will D12 re-sign with the Lakers, or will he not?

Woke up early and watched the game again...

He seriously had the Rockets s***ting the bed. They couldn't get to the rim on him. I think there had to be something like less than 10 points scored AGAINST Dwight on the drive (including free throws). The only way to get to the rim was to get on the break or pick and roll him away from the rim.

Offensively he might not have shot a fantastic percentage, but he really did a great job against Asik in general. He was just doubled or tripled much of the night. There's not many bigs that can score against 2, 3, 4 defenders. Overall he put up simply fantastic numbers.

The intensity he's shown over the last two games is different. The energy. It's really amazing to watch.

they do the same when it comes to a player getting into the paint but as far as the one play where Dwight sprinted back on D and forced the TO on Lin, thats a play I could never imagine Bynum making.

What really impressed me was the fact that he mentally stayed in the game on the defensive end when it was difficult for the Lakers to run any offense through him... Asik really impressed me with how hard he was playing Dwight in the paint... Made it really difficult to get him the ball.

You can see he has really took to the role of leading this team, and defensively at that. No more smiles, all intensity.

Outside the obvious moving screen offensive foul he had, he didn't have any other last light.

Kept him in the game. He's learning to seal/post without his hands better.

There was some contact there, but Beverly sold it for sure.

Dwight was all over the place defensively last night... some times out of place as well. He was the difference on that end of the floor for sure. One thing that was evident is that plays that have been regularly called fouls were not called in the 4th on him. It was huge that he was allowed to play physical and not be put on the bench.

His offensive production in the first 3 quarters in the set post was as bad as his defense was good in the 4th quarter. Some of the post moves were positively horrid. As Dirty Harry once said.... "A man has got to know his limitations".....

Once we went away from the straight post up game with him and started back screening for him under the hoop he got the kind of looks he can make. Asik is a decent post defender but Dwight just isn't good in a typical post up situation either. I hope we plan accordingly against SA because you can bet Pop is planning for us.....

Howard needs to establish really deep position to have a chance to score with those flip shots and bankers. Gasol found him for a some real "gimmes" last night. When Howard has to create on his own by backing in his defender, it looks mechanical and clunky. Otherwise its putbacks or lob slams. Van Gundy reiterated last night that he cannot be ever be considered as a first option on offense. I hope Howard puts in work during the next summers tinkering on his repertoire to better himself. I'm sure he has had Abdul-Jabbar and Olajuwon's phone numbers on speed dial...

His effort and impact on defense however has to be lauded. He really shut down the middle. I was thinking to myself whether Howard will have to have the 24 treatment and go 40+ minutes wise for the team have a chance in winning.
No siggie...

It took Kobe not being there for the refs to allow Dwight to play defense. I guess you can't have your cake and eat it too.........unless your Miami or OKC.
