Totes.

?????

"Totes" is what the young people these days use for the word "totally". My niece taught me that.

If you're a fan of both teams, that's fine. Be prepared to be met with a lot of opposition as the first thing you posted was a flimsy reason why Howard might like Houston. Not to mention your name is decidedly NOT a "Laker" friendly name.

Lakers fan since Shaq was here u don't think he would be happy with that young core and his best friend that's not flimsy that's truth he clearly wasn't happy here I'm just keepin it real too much homerizm around here I've been lurking for 3 to 4 years now

i'm guessing "three the harden way" consists of james harden ramming into a retreating defender, flailing his arms upward in a swan-like motion whilst the ball travels out of bounds, receiving two free throws for the flop and then getting to shoot the technical ft upon the opposing team's complaint.

is that it? because that's what's in my mind.

Le sigh.

I know both of my teams rosters so what if I spelled it wrong u want a cookie They don't need s/t about 5-10 teams would line up to sign omer

:man10:

No offense, but... what homerism? Most fans on THIS board don't see much problem with him bolting for Houston. If you lurked here, you'd know that. There are two or three of us that think Houston is an arm-pit with second rate talent and a limited future. Most others though see some merit to him leaving.

Where's the "homerizm"?

I find that if you have to put "Im just keepin it real" and add "homerizm" with it that a couple things are going on....1) you are not, in fact, keeping it real. 2) Homerizm is used primarily when a point can't be defended well enough in most cases. 3) Using speculation (your opinion) in an attempt to make it factual does not make it factual. And 4) usually people who say they have been "lurking" have not but understand message board mafia responses from the old heads (like me) to their initial post that are either A) slamming our team, B) Praising another team or C) slamming our fans. Since new posters like that are usually called trolls and treated harshly the "I've been lurking" tag comes out. I don't know if you have or haven't been lurking, posting, caring or if you are a Lakers fan, a Shaq fan, A Lebron fan, a Houston fan or whatever but time will tell.

I will say this, if you are siding with Mr. CottonCandy that says a lot. Welcome to the site
For what it's worth, the Lakers also clinched the Pacific Division, an achievement Bryant dismissed by saying "We don't hang divisions." No, only the big NBA championship banners are considered wall-worthy for the Lakers.

So according to SI Dwight has only $2.4 mil/yr in endorsement money. Thats it?? Good for #31 among all athletes.

Dwight Howard
Los Angeles Lakers (NBA)

There was the chance that Howard’s off-court stock would rise after his trade from Orlando to Los Angeles last fall, but that hasn’t happened. Advertising experts say that his bad attitude in recent years has hurt his marketability, which is why he has only three big-name deals: Adidas, Gatorade and Acuvue contact

He will get more endorsements when he signs long term. Why would advertisers latch on to Dwight in a big market if he's not locked into that big market...and coming off of back surgery?

^^Agreed. Adidas tossed a "life time" contract at Rose within months of him signing his new contract.

Exactly. No one is about to throw a long term endorsement deal at him if he bolts to Houston. It just ain't happening.

On what the Mavs can do this offseason to regain their role as a contender:

“I think it’s going to be difficult for them particularly with Dirk Nowitzki getting up there in age, and he’s still the focal point of what you do offensively. But there are options for this team. They have nine free agents. They’re going to have a lot of money to spend in the summer. Unfortunately for them, it’s not the greatest free agent class. I think a lot of the big names like Dwight Howard and Chris Paul, I firmly expect those guys to stay where they are with the Lakers and Clippers, respectively.”

Well.... Houston is the 3rd largest city in the US.... and Texas isn't exactly small either. He won't get squat in Atlanta but he'd still get a fairly nice deal in Houston I'd believe.

i'm out of my depth on this issue, but my understanding was that it was something like:

ny
la

chi

other places

in terms of exposure/endorsements for athletes. in other words, size is an issue, but not the only issue.

Could be.... but if endorsements are tied to potential fan base and population.... Houston is a very large city and Texas isn't exactly small. The Rockets were extremely profitable selling merchandise when Yao was there and I'm sure they are still followed in China because of that so you can't just dismiss if out of hand. That's one of the overriding reasons they paid up for Lin.

Similarly we may be able to swing a better than expected deal with Minnesota with Pau. Rubio and Pau appeal to a whole lot of Spanish speaking countries out there that buy merchandise..... They know that and I'll bet that's why Pau to Minn. always seems to be on the rumor mill radar.

New market for the NBA is outside the boarders.... the existing markets are established and saturated for the most part.

I do believe that LA and NY lead the way but Chi/Houston/Miami have been interchangeable in the recent 20 years in 3rd place as far as total merchandise revenues are concerned.

Houston's still a pretty big market. It's no LA but still pretty big. Add Lin and the Asian market to the mix, and I'm sure he could get a fairly big deal in Houston.

The problem with the "Chinese" fandom of Houston being a consideration...

Kobe plays in LA. :man10:

And Kobe actually OUTSOLD Yao in China for a long time. Kobe is almost a god over there and playing NEXT to Kobe is going to get you a lot more exposure in China than playing next to Lin at this point.

Yes, Houston is a populous place, but it's no LA in terms of endorsement opportunities.

I'm in Dallas right now it is NICE!!! Not quite as fancy as LA though and its quite muggy here at nights ha. There are tons of Laker fans here it feels like Im back in LA lol also there are lots of Cowboys and Rangers billboards and haven't run into anything Mavs related...you just wouldn't know they play here. Seems like a Football and Baseball town first before basketball town.
