Daily Drew: UPDATE 8-28..Kupchak to Atlanta to check on him

Postby Questionmark on Tue Feb 26, 2008 10:44 am

Exactly what I was thinking. Since the Lakers are playing so well right now, there is no rush for him to come back. He should wait until he's 100%, even if it means that he's not gonna be integrated into the offense fully by the playoffs. I'd rather have a 100% Bynum going into the playoffs than a 95% Bynum who may have to take a game off or two during the playoffs because the swelling comes back and/or his strength/conditioning isn't fully there yet.

4-6 weeks would mean April…we have 8 games to end the season in that month and its still realistic to see him playing those and getting in some type of shape for the post-season

I get the feeling that Drew coming back will be like the Pau trade. One day we'll put on the game and everyone will be talking about Drew in the lineup.

Pretty much not that surprised he isn't coming back to almost playoff time. Simply put 0 reason for him to rush. We are 1st seed in the West. The lakers are looking unstoppable. We just need him to come back maybe the last 2-3 games of the season to get back in shape.

It could be worse.

Bynum could have said, "I got injured on company time; I'm going to milk my recovery on company time."

I think it will take more games since he has being sittin at home for 4 weeks to get the swelling out of his knees

It would be great if he could return by then. That's right before a 4-game roadtrip against "top 8" teams.

I'll say it for the umpteenth time

during the Lakers-Pistons game, on the Pistons telecast, the announcer quoted Jim Cleamons as saying the Lakers HOPED to have Bynum back by April 1, with an emphasis on hope, and indication that that was best case scenario.

Bynum needs to come back next week. I hate beating teams by less than 30.

I'm sure the second he's ready to come back Kobe will be more than happy to help get him back in shape.

Hell, let him play with the 2nd unit in practice a bit. Have Phil tell Farmar to push the ball, that'll help Drew along.

I'm not sure his conditioning will be as big an issue everyone thinks it will be. He is running in a pool now and has been running on elipticals. Nothing helps like playing in the game but it isn't like he's old and can only play 3-5 minutes at a time (see: Shaq). He should be fully ready to play when he comes back unlike other players that come back entirely too early (LO, Kwame, Luke).

A) He plays a highly competitive sport for a highly competitive team that needs

him to be 100% if they want to win a title.

B) With the addition of Gasol, there is no need to inject Bynum back in the line-

up untill he is ready.

C) No surgery, but dislocating your knee hurts, and i'd rather him take all the

time he needs to stregethen his body up again.

More than the dislocation, it was the bone bruise he suffered that caused most of the pain and takes a while to heal. He's also got to strengthen the muscles around his knee to prevent future recurrences, so yeah, he needs the time!

It's been said many times, let's not force Bynum back. We're winning games at the moment, there's no need to force Bynum back and risk further injury which would damage the rest of his career and leave him out of the playoffs. Let him take it easy and have him back a few games before the playoffs, this way he can gain game fitness before the playoffs.
