Deron Williams Trade Discussion (Resigning w/Brooklyn)

Postby Texas Lakers Fan on Wed May 23, 2012 12:04 pm

Deron Williams prefers to re-sign with the Nets, but he also would consider going to the Lakers in a sign-and-trade, according to a source.

The Lakers appear to be a more suitable alternative for Williams than the Mavericks.

"There's no longevity there," said a source close to Williams of the Mavericks.

Not sure how that works out with 2 ball dominant guards...but well, Deron is a top 5 PG in the NBA, thats for sure.

For Gasol, I guess you have to go for it. For Bynum it really doesn't make much sense.

Deron creating an open look for Kobe

Kobe with the shot fake and jabsteps , waiting for his defender to recover and then take a tough fadeaway

Deron : "Wtf"

The Gasol for Bosh scenario is more likely to happen than this one.

Love to have him on the team, but...

Last time I checked we need....

- A PF who doesn't shrink in big games and the playoffs (last two years)
- A legit bench scorer so that Kobe/Bynum can you know come out of the game.
- A backup 2 guard

Deron doesn't do any of that. Bynum for DWill....no way....Pau for DWill....Nets laugh at us.

Deron can play/defend both point or shooting guard. He played next to Rose, Wade and James (each ball-dominant) during the All-Star game and was spectacular. That’s part of what makes him better than Paul. Paul can’t play off the ball. Deron can play off the ball, and has a impact (as a lethal 3-point threat).

I can see why Deron wants to come here though. Nets will be spinning around in the toilet and Dallas has pretty much effed themselves over by not resigning anybody and D12 staying in Orlando another year.

We also need a legit starting PG because in the playoffs we clearly saw Sessions is a backup.

Well, Deron is precisely the guy that I would move Bynum for. If it were a scenario as thrown out there by Stephen A yesterday - Deron and Lopez for Bynum and salary, let's say Blake? Sign me up. That gets us a big serviceable center and a sensational, and bullet proof PG who has enough talent and smarts to run the offense himself and not listen to Brown, and enough clout to not always defer to Kobe. I'd do that trade in a heartbeat.

The problem of course is the way that wording was stated that Deron would prefer to stay in NJ. If so then there is not much leverage for a trade to happen. Why would they give him up, even for Bynum? I think they are trying to retain him in order to have a better shot at D12.

I wouldn't do that deal. We'd be incredibly soft inside. Brook Lopez is basically a younger and even softer version of Lopez. Gasol/Lopez would be the softest 4/5 combo in basketball.

come on, the only player we should trade bynum for is howard, that's it..

the only way i'll trade bynum for a point guard is if they also include another player (dwill+lopez or rond+bass ) <---something like that
