Summary from LG:

Lakers were close, very close, to signing Allen Iverson before the season even started back in December 2011.

It was agreed upon with Lakers and Iverson's people that AI was going to be a Laker. But before they signed, the Lakers decided to ask Iverson if he was willing to play for the Defenders (D-League) first before coming over, which Iverson's people said was a deal breaker and the deal fell apart.

Now, Iverson's people and the Lakers are talking again, and Iverson is now willing to try out the D-League so he could sign with the Lakers.

After reading the title I thought the Lakers were close to signing this time and almost done. This WAS close to signing. Lakers could now have a opportunity to sign him since he changed his mind about playing in the D-League.

Why the hell would we do this? It can't be true, I mean what benefit in the world would there be to this? I think at this point Goudelock is better than Iverson, dude has been out of the league for what feels like 2 years. Hell I have to think even Arenas would be better than Iverson at this point. What role could he possibly play, bench chucker? Not buying it, I just cannot take this rumor seriously, the Lakers front office is not stupider than the overwhelming majority of this forum, because almost none of us would be dumb enough to sign Iverson if we ran the Lakers.

Calm down people. He has to play some defender ball first so it's not like we'd just sign him. He'd probably really have to impress on the defenders to make it to the lakers

I think he'd still be good for about 10 ppg. We'll see how he does in the D league first. If he kills it there, he'll be good for at least 10 ppg in the NBA.

Ai would be a financial move for LA as he can still sell jerseys and merch as seen in his stay in Memphis and Phili when he was last in the league. I think he has more game than Gilbert and always did personally on both ends and as a passer, but boy you have to wonder about his ego.

Pretty much the Lakers' way of making sure AI gets an ego check before he gets here. If he eventually plays for us? Oh boy... we'll see.

I knew something was up. Iverson is broke after pulling in $154million over his career. What a dummy. Maybe jimmy feels bad for him and wants to help out.

To be honest, Iverson is not Ideal, but I promise you he is still capable of beating many off the dribble. He will have no ego, because he will be terribly happy to have a gig since hes broker than the 10 commandments. The last think is if he plays like he did in many of the all star games and just create shots for others it could be low risk high reward...Just my thoughts.

Might as well bring Shaq back too. What a season.
